LETTERS: Plett for governor
To the Editor:
I recently read the top-notch article titled, "Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant" by Rowena Plett.
I say: "Plett for Governor!"
Right next to Rowena's masterpiece was a rambling write-up by Kansas governor Kathleen Sebelius criticizing coal-powered power plants, promoting wind power, and supporting false global warming theories.
Beware the governor is leading the state into the untenable situation that California finds itself in today with high fuel costs, power outages, and large state deficits.
Rowena's facts are right on target. Other facts on energy are:
1.) Wind and solar power cost 10 times as much as coal or nuclear.
2.) Wind and solar power require almost 300 times as much land to generate the same amount of power as the same capacity coal or nuclear plant.
3.) Wind and solar are unreliable sources of energy.
4.) Fuel cost for nuclear energy is one-third that of coal, and one-eighth that of natural gas.
5.) Nuclear power has been the low cost leader for energy production here in the United States for four consecutive years.
6.) The demand for power will not go away. There are more and more uses for it and the population keeps increasing.
I hope Governor Sebelius reads Rowena Plett's article.
