LETTERS: Providing for ourselves

To the Editor:

Now that we have heard the endless promises made by politicians for this and for that, how can those promises be fulfilled except at the expense of the private citizen.

Is it not our civic duty under the Constitution to provide for our own welfare, our own prosperity, and our own well-being?

I recently met a man who never votes but he works hard to provide for his family and his own security. He is doing his civic duty.

If we deny ourselves that right by depending on the government to provide for us, then what is our future?

What makes America great is not our social programs but the private sector. Government can't give us anything without first taking it away from us.
