Endorsement
To the Editor:
Included in this issue of the Marion County Record is a paid political advertisement endorsing the write-in candidacy of Val DeFever of Independence for the State Board of Education. Readers will note that I paid for this advertisement. My superintendent colleagues in Hillsboro and Peabody have done the same in the newspapers serving their communities.
DeFever is currently on the state board, and in my judgment has done an outstanding job during her four-year tenure in that position. I encourage Marion and Florence voters who care about providing a quality education for all children to write in the name Val DeFever next Tuesday and blacken out the oval next to the name you write in.
The name on the ballot is that of Iris VanMeter, a candidate who has steadfastly avoided discussing any of the issues facing Kansas public education. I honestly do not know where VanMeter stands on the important issues of school accreditation, school improvement, teacher licensure, and school funding. I do know where DeFever stands on these issues, and again would encourage all voters who believe that a quality education for all children is important to our economic health to write in the name of Val DeFever for State Board of Education next Tuesday.
Voters who would like more information are invited to call me at 620-382-2117.
