The straight story

To the Editor:

I would like to take this time to address all of the somebodies, theys, and nobodies of Marion.

They said somebody told them Stone City Café was closing up for good Oct. 1, but nobody knows for sure, so here is the scoop . . .

Stone City Café is for sale. We are not closing. We will not leave Marion without a restaurant.

Donna will be retiring Nov. 23, at which time we will close for Thanksgiving weekend to spend time with our families, like we have done the past 16 years.

Our contract with Kannady & Associates Real Estate will be up in February, at which time if Stone City Café is not sold, we will remain open.

If there is anything else that somebody wants to know, they are welcome to come in and ask any time. After all, nobody else knows for sure.

Stone City Cafe

Warm-hearted people

To the Editor:

A few days ago, my mother, sister, and I visited Marion County while on vacation. We came to view some family gravesites on a genealogy search. Although my mother was raised in Florence and Marion, it had been quite a long time since she had visited and we had some difficulty locating our family plots. Thanks to three Marion County residents we were able to find them.

We would like to express our deep felt appreciation to Mr. Johnston at the Marion Cemetery who helped us find our Johnston family plot and who turned out to be a cousin; to the gentleman working in the field near Antelope who not only pointed us in the right direction to Grant Township (Youngtown) Cemetery, but told us about one of our family member's house that is now on the list of historical places in Kansas and where my grandmother was actually born; and to the gentleman with all the creatures in his yard on the U.S.-77 detour who gave us explicit directions to Grant Township Cemetery.

Without the help of these wonderful men, we would not have found our ancestors and would not have brought home to Dallas, Texas, some wonderful pictures and memories of the warm-hearted people in Marion County.
