LETTERS: Truman Strong

Truman H. Strong, 94, Hoisington, died July 12, 2008, at Ellinwood.

Born April 14, 1914, at Dover, Okla., he was the son of William and Maggie (Jenner) Strong.

On Jan. 23, 1937, he married Opal Wilson at Cottonwood Falls. She died in 2007.

He was a retired farmer and resident of Burns and Florence before moving to Hoisington in 2000.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Bill Strong; brothers, Ernest, Howard, Earl, and Roy Strong; and sister, Minnie Hoyle.

Survivors include granddaughter and caregiver, Debra and Don Mitchell of Hoisington; son, Truman Dean Strong of Farmersville, Texas; daughter, Neva Hayes of Castle Rock, Colo.; sister, Edna Campbell of Fort Scott; four additional grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, El Dorado.

A memorial fund has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
