LETTERS: Who are the real polluters?
To the Editor:
Yippee! Kansas is the first state in the country to turn down a permit for a coal-fired power plant. We are so progressive!
Are we going to be the first to ban cars and all forms of modern living?
Isn't the private sector simply responding to the demand for energy?
And wasn't that demand created through our leaders' policies of promoting economic consumption, which they don't want to admit?
For example, government encourages urban sprawl and consumptive living while promoting lotteries, casinos, etc., which rob from the people. All the while, through taxation and regulations, discouraging the common people from living productive lives and providing for themselves. They rather encourage us to follow our lusts of self-indulgence. Isn't this the real pollution? They lead us into polluting so they can blame us for polluting while they live in their own self-indulgence.
Do our environmental leaders set the example, or do they blame us? They damn the oil companies, they damn the farmers, they damn the ranchers, and they damn the killing of animals for food.
So let's shut down all the production. Then, who will feed our consumption?
