LETTERS: Wish list

To the Editor:

I have two items I wish to address.

The first item concerns the CCC statue project at Marion County Lake. I wish to compliment all those who made the decision to select the chosen site and to use a rock as the base for the statue. How very unique, how thoughtful, to use a natural rock, native to the area, to hold and display this statue, which represents those who served this great society in a time when they and their families were in dire need.

The second item concerns the assisted living project that has been completed. This definitely is an asset to this community and those responsible for it becoming a part of the available housing for those who have this need should be commended.

We now have available for the elderly or anyone who has the need, apartment self-care to total-care living, and it is all centrally located.

But I feel that a great need is being overlooked. In our modern time much emphasis is placed on exercise to keep our bodies and minds functioning to their fullest capacity. To do this you need facilities to accommodate exercise for those who want it, and must have it available year-round. This would mean it should be attached to the total care home, but still be available to anyone else who is able to get to it. All the people who are confined to a care home are being shortchanged, and so are those who could benefit from such a facility.

There are some good examples of such facilities in close proximity to Marion, and in cities no larger than ours. This should be investigated and put in the planning stages for the future.
