Library has new computers for kids
The Marion City Library has purchased three new computers with money awarded from an LSTA (Library Service Technology Act) grant. The machines have been added to the children's area.
The new computers are for use by children ages 2-12 and are equipped with educational programs.
The computers will give the children an opportunity to access learning from the programs and to become familiar with hands-on computer use, Janet Marler, librarian, said.
Some of the titles available for use are:
Reader Rabbits Math for ages 4-6 and 6-9, Reader Rabbits Toddler and Preschool, Carmen Sandiego Math Detective, Arthur's Teacher Trouble, Elmo's Deep Sea Adventure;
Also, The Wizard of Oz, Miss Spider's Tea Party, Arthur's Birthday, Blue's Clues 123 Activities, Blue's Clues Reading Time, Lego-Preschool, Mr. Potato Head Activities, and Typing Tutor.
Some of the requirements will be:
Age limit 2-7 with adult supervision only; ages 7-12 may use the computers by themselves if they know how. Parent or child must sign up to use computers. Computers may be used for one-hour time periods. Headphones are to be used to reduce noise in the children's area.
