Library to close Saturday for moving
Marion City Library officials announced Monday that the current location will close permanently at 1 p.m. Saturday.
All books, magazines, tapes, and other materials currently out should be returned by 9 a.m. Monday. Librarian Janet Marler said they want all items in place so they can arrange shelves in the new library most efficiently.
Anyone who can help pack books, move boxes, set up shelves, and re-shelve books is asked to call the library at 382-2442 to schedule their help. Work will start Monday.
Officials hope the closing will give library staff members and volunteers time to pack materials at the Santa Fe Street location and move them to the renovated depot at South Third and Library streets.
Staying open while packing simply wasn't an option, Marler said. Packing and moving will be a noisy and complicated process which would disturb patrons looking for books.
And since the library is scheduled to re-open July 15, there isn't time to help patrons find books or do research while packing takes place.
A dedication and open house is planned for 7 to 9 p.m. July 14. The library will start its regular hours at 10 a.m. July 15.
The summer reading program for children who have completed kindergarten to eighth grade will be held July 22 to Aug. 4.
