Cloudy skies threatened rain as Octoberfest dawned Saturday in Lincolnville. Fortunately, the rain held off until 3:30 p.m., allowing completion of most of the outdoor activities. Those remaining were moved to Bailey's Tavern.

People flocked from all around to listen to entertainment, peruse arts and crafts booths, and enjoy food.

The 11 a.m. parade was the largest in several years with at least 60 entries.

Fire departments from almost every area of the county were represented.

The colors were presented by Centre Girl Scout Troop #180.

They were followed by Centre Junior/Senior High School Band in royal blue uniforms trimmed with red and white. The band was led by instructor Kenny Roe.

Bob and Arlene Kleinschmidt were grand marshals. They have lived in Lincolnville for 36 years. They are active in St. John's Lutheran Church. Their children were active in 4-H.

Bob retired from Centre USD after more than 30 years of teaching, and Arlene has operated a bookkeeping and tax preparation business for 30 years. They have three children and seven grandchildren.

Lincolnville Octoberfest royalty were Princess Hannah Peterson and Prince Dylan Deines. Hannah is the daughter of the Troy Petersons, and Dylan is the son of Terry and Julie Deines.

Judges were Linda Peterson, James Hoffmann, and Jim Davis. Prize winners were:

Best in theme, City of Lincolnville.

Most humorous, Pilsen Packrats.

Best vehicle, Willie Enz of Hillsboro, driving a Model A Ford car.

Kids, 1) Little Feet Daycare; 2) Brownie Girl Scouts; 3) Support the Troops.

Fun run medalers were: 1) Lloyd Davies, age 44; 2) Jeff Methvin, 14; 3) Dallas Spooner, 13. Davies was the oldest runner. Samantha Methvin, 8, was the youngest.

The medallion was found by Nellie Hill. She won a $50 savings bond from Pilsen State Bank.

Hundreds of donated door prizes were given away. In the raffle, a $100 gift certificate from Ampride went to Jerry Brose of Herington. Sandra Svoboda of Ramona won an IPod Shuffle.

Pam Holub won a stadium blanket given by Centre PTO.

A co-ed softball tournament held Saturday and Sunday was won by a team sponsored by Double V Construction of Lincolnville. Other teams were Stika, Makovec, Burdick, Whiskey Tango of Hope, and KDOT.

Octoberfest committee members were: Sylvia Bailey, chairman, Gail Burns, Evelyn Matz, Shelly Peterson, Lester and Barb Kaiser, Joe Vinduska, and Pam Diepenbrock.

This is the first year Bailey chaired the event.

"I want to thank everybody who volunteered to help," she said. "I've heard nothing but positive comments. I learned a lot this year. It was great. I had fun and had a great crew."
