Linnea Nelson

Linnea M. Nelson, 88, of Burdick, died Nov. 11, 2003, at the Lutheran Care Home in Herington.

She was born Nov. 9, 1915, at Dallas, S.D., the daughter of the Rev. John J. and Hannah Lydia (Carlberg) Richard.

She graduated from Dwight High School with the class of 1933. In 1940 she received her bachelor of arts degree in education from Bethany College.

On Nov. 21, 1942, she married Hedrick Nelson. He died in 2001.

She was a homemaker and teacher. She taught grade school at Stone Chapel School in Morris County and later taught high school English and music at Culver.

From 1966-1982 she taught in the Centre school district and the Humboldt school system.

During World War II she worked as a draftsman at an aircraft plant in San Diego.

She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Roland Richard; and an infant son, James Nelson.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Richard Nelson of Manassas, Va., and Jon Nelson of Fort Worth, Texas; three daughters, Karin Nelson of Burdick, Corrine Flynn of Dallas, Texas, and Ruth Anderson of Salina; a sister, Dorothy Garanson of Dwight; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington, with the Rev. Troy Slater officiating.

Burial was in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery, Burdick.

Memorials have been established with our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Home, or KJRL Radio.
