Living Center: Resident council

By GLADYS MANN

St. Luke Living Center reporter

The Sunday church service was given by the Rev. Alan Stahlecker of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lincolnville. We appreciate the ministers of the different churches taking time to bring us the word of God. We have a beautiful little chapel.

The resident council met Monday morning. Many ideas were discussed. This is when the staff hears what residents' wishes are. Lots of new ideas are discussed on everything in general.

The volunteer who was to give the afternoon program wasn't able to come, so we had a popcorn party. Everyone enjoys fresh hot popcorn.

There was piano music by the Davidsons in the evening.

The prayer group Tuesday morning was led by Dick Pracht. He gives such wonderful messages in such an interesting way.

Wednesday morning is "pretty-up" time when Khrista Branson trims fingernails and does facials.

Khrista reads the Marion County Record each Wednesday afternoon to a large group in the dining room. Everyone drinks coffee or tea and has snacks.

In the evening, Jim Hett sang with Ellen Darrow at the piano. We are always glad to have him sing for us. We really appreciate them.

There is an hour of hymn singing Thursday mornings. Since our regular pianist wasn't able to come, Ruth Kissel played for us. She does wonderfully well. She is the only resident who can play, so she does quite often.

There was a surprise party in the afternoon honoring our nurses and staff members and giving out awards. Refreshments were served.

Chocolate chip pudding cookies were baked Friday morning. The afternoon was spent playing Bingo with Lois Winte calling the numbers. She always brings some quips and jokes to read.

Gene Vinduska was present with his accordion Saturday morning for the polka hour. Cookies and coffee are served. Video movies were shown in the afternoon.

Several programs were either postponed or canceled during the week because of the volunteers' busy schedules. However, the activity staff usually fills in with something interesting.
