Even though there wasn't a report from last week because one-half of the writing team was on vacation, residents did continue to be active.
Residents eagerly await the arrival of the Marion County Record each Wednesday when we congregate around a large dining room table to read "the Old Rag." The front page gets our attention first, then we're off to Norma's Random Thoughts, the Ramona sisters' news and opinions, other senior facilities' news, Memories, announcements, hospital and auxiliary news, Carlsons' Grocery ad, and, of course, St. Luke Living Center news.
Rev. Josh Wesner of Emmanuel Baptist Church was here Sunday. Pastor Rick Branson of Eastmoor United Methodist Church and Burdick United Methodist Church was our guest minister.
We invited JoAnn and Bill Fitzpatrick Monday afternoon to come and share a time of fellowship, root beer floats, and snack crackers in appreciation of the hours JoAnn has spent adding pleasure to our lives. She and Bill have decided to spend more time with grandchildren and each other. We will definitely miss her generosity.
Aerobics For the Mind has begun. There are 12 challenging categories with 100 stimulating and fun exercises to keep the brain alert and improve memory. Even though we're not sure about its effectiveness, we're anxious to experience it. So far we've found it doesn't even seem like exercise.
Representatives of St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary brought refreshments of sugar wafers, cheese crackers, and green grapes for residents during their monthly visit. Evelyn and Dick Bredemeier and Jean Case served the treat Thursday afternoon with iced tea and coffee. They graciously spent an hour visiting with us.
In spite of the 100-degree weather, we have at least three large tomatoes on our lone plant that are almost ready for picking. There also are several small tomatoes, but not many blossoms. Just too much egg-fryin' heat!
