Living center: Strassburg church brings Sunday service

(Week of June 29 to July 5)

The Strassburg Baptist Church brought the Sunday service. A large group came with a bell choir of six little boys who played several numbers. A little girl, about 10, sang three songs. She has a beautiful soprano voice for one so young. The message was given by the Rev. Don Mashburn. It was a beautiful service. We appreciated them.

Resident Council met Monday morning. This is when we are brought up-to-date on events and hear views or complaints. We were told there is to be some remodeling at the entrance and nurses' station. Plans are to get a large screen TV and place it higher on the wall so more people can see it. We also were told there will soon be a room rate increase. We don't know how much yet.

During the summer, many staff members are taking vacations so the rest get shifted around to different stations. It all works out smoothly.

We have two new employees. Jennifer Wyss, a part time CNA, and Mike Calhoun, a full time CNA. We hope they like it here and we welcome them. Jillyan Berg quit the first of June. Her family moved to Salina and she will start school there in August. Ashley Moore leaves the last of July to start school in August.

Gene Ellis donated a squirrel feeder. It was placed by the front entrance. Come by and watch the squirrels eat. Veva Navrat's daughter Kay brought in two bird feeders. Now to keep bird seed for them!

Ellen Darrow came and played all the patriotic songs in honor of the Fourth of July, our great Independence Day. Many lives were lost to make this our land of the free.

The Country Kids came to entertain Tuesday morning. They are 2-, 3-, and 4-year-olds. They were so exited and bouncy and gave each of us a plastic bag of snacks of cereal mix and hand fans with a flag on them with the Pledge of Allegiance. We really enjoyed their antics.

In the afternoon, the prayer group met with Dick Pracht. He always gives such interesting messages. Later, the Davidsons gave a piano recital.

Wednesday morning was "pretty up" time. Current events in the afternoon had Khrista Branson reading the Marion County Record. Coffee was served along with snacks.

There was an hour of hymn singing Thursday with Lois Winter at the piano. Iva Unruh came and gave the early history of the Revolution, the making of the flag, and Independence Day.

We had a picnic lunch at noon on the Fourth and a watermelon party in the afternoon.

On Saturday, we watched video movies and ate popcorn.
