Week of June 22-28
Sunday's church service was provided by the Rev. Dyar of the Florence and Aulne United Methodist churches. A young boy played some special numbers on the piano. Wanda Williams played the piano for singing and also a special solo.
Khrista Branson drove the mini-van Monday on many small trips for about five or six people at a time. The group went to McDonald's in Hillsboro for lunch at noon. Residents on the trip were Millie Summervill, Cyril Reznicek, Agnes Bina, Pearl Baxter, and Gladys Mann.
Khrista led the prayer group Tuesday morning. There were crafts in the afternoon with the Pilsen ladies, Amelia Vinduska and Magdalen Dvorak. We cut out stars, sprinkled them with glitter, and made wind chimes. They served little cinnamon rolls with coffee. The Davidsons came later and played piano music. After supper, the CWF ladies came and we played Bingo.
Wednesday morning was "pretty up" time. In the afternoon was current events with Khrista reading the Marion County Record. We were pleasantly surprised at supper time with violin music by 8-year-old McKenzie Johnson. She played four numbers by memory. She, her brother, and their mother are from Chicago and are visiting her grandmother, Clara Razor. Clara has been out for several days with her family.
Hymns were sung Thursday morning with Shirley and David Bowers. We sang patriotic hymns. In the afternoon, Judy Priest played the violin accompanied by Shirley Bowers on the piano. Judy is a wonderful violinist. She and her husband Bob both are retired ministers.
The regular cookie baking time was held Friday morning with Khrista. We baked applesauce/raisin cookies and ate them with coffee. Nothing is better than fresh cookies hot out of the oven. The afternoon was spent playing Bingo. Refreshments were served afterward.
Saturday morning was polka time with Gene Vinduska and his accordion. Cookies and coffee were enjoyed while he played. Residents watched video movies in the afternoon.
