Lola Hammer

Lola Ruth (Kohlman) Hammer, 88, died March 18, 2002, at St. Luke Hospital.

She had been a resident of Marion Manor nursing home for the past three years.

Born June 10, 1913, in rural Marion County she was one of the 13 children of Valeria and Adolph Kohlman.

She married William R. Hammer on April 10, 1975. He died in February of 1976.

The couple had three children, William, Sandra, and Gary.

They resided on a farm east of Marion, moving into Marion in 1963.

She was a member of Valley United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She worked many years in the kitchens at Marion Elementary School and St. Luke Hospital.

While at Marion Manor she delighted in folding bibs and towels in the laundry department.

She was preceded by her parents; her husband; daughter, Sandra; brothers, Walter, Albert, Henry, and Adolph Rae; sisters, Kleoria Reese, Edna Montgomery, Pat Berry, Pearl Thrush, and infant sisters Marion and Mae.

Survivors include sons William and his wife, Clarice, of Olathe, and Gary and his wife, Gerry, of Adams, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Verlea Claney and Pauline Pester; sister-in-law Clara Bredemeier and husband, Herb; plus many nieces and nephews.

Services were held March 20 at Zeiner Funeral Home with burial in Grant Township Cemetery.

A memorial fund was established with American Heart Association.
