Junior Justin Garrard is one of five members of the Centre High School cross country team. Garrard made a name for himself and for his school during the 2002 season, placing eighth at regionals and 19th at state. He also took fifth place in the state track meet in the 3200-meter run.

"He's running well and should be competitive again this year," said first year coach Alan Stahlecker.

Stahlecker has been assistant track coach at Centre for two years and has an impressive running record of his own, having won numerous medals in cross country and track.

Garrard and sophomore Dani Hatfield are returning letter winners.

"I'm looking forward to Hatfield doing well," Stahlecker said. "She should be the lead runner, at least initially."

Three newcomers are freshmen Brittany Owens and Jo Terwilliger and senior Ashley Perkins.

Perkins served as manager during the last season but is working out now and hopes to be an active member of the team.

They will compete in seven regular meets, the first one being Sept. 4 at Lebo-Hartford.
