Ruby Holub of Marion took Betty Stroda of Herington and Irma Reznicek to Hillsboro a week ago where they ate dinner in celebration of Irma and Betty's birthdays.
Irma Reznicek and her son Bob went to Tampa this past week to watch Irma's great-granddaughter, Macayla Stika and Shelby Makovec play on Tampa's team. They played Herington. That same evening they also watched great-granddaughters Nicole and Alison Klug of Herington play T-ball against Tampa. Her great-grandson, Alex Stika, son of Michael Stika played T-ball on the Tampa team against Herington.
Lightning hit my large mulberry tree and a 300-gallon gas tank at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Lucky there was no gas in the tank. A large limb fell on top of the tank and on the ground. Wednesday morning my son, Clark from Rose Hill sawed the limb with a buck saw since his chain saw didn't work. The limb was at least 12 inches in diameter. He also used an ax to chop the limb from the tree. After he got that cleaned up he mowed the lawn. After having dinner with me, he left by 3:30 p.m. to get back to Rose Hill to take his son Austin to a ball game. Austin is the pitcher for the Rose Hill team. That was the beginning of a tournament for his team.
Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu went to Bertha Schneider's funeral Saturday at Ramona Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment was at Lewis Cemetery.

Diann Enz and sons of Dallas, Texas, visited Alex and Jean Stuchlik for five days. Rita Stuchlik of Wichita spent the weekend with her folks, Alex and Jean, and their guests.
Frances Stuchlik was a July 4 dinner guest of Monty and Sarah Stuchlik.
Wayne and Marita Schwartzman of Park City visited Friday night with me. Recently they moved from Wichita into their new home.
Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu attended the baptism of Jaxxon Hanschu, son of Jayson and Jan Hanschu, at Zion Lutheran Church at Hillsboro. Sponsors were Joe and Yolanda Nowak of Goddard and Daran and Kendra Newschafer of Salina. For the baptism, Jaxxon was wearing what his father Jayson and his two brothers, Jakob and Jorge, wore for their baptisms.
Others who attended the baptism were Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Kallie Jo and Morgan of Salina, Joe and Joan Nowak of rural Marion, Gary Newschafer of Lindsborg, Fred and Marguerite Utech of Ramona, brothers Jakob and Jorge of Hillsboro, and other friends and neighbors. After the baptism, dinner was held at Olde Towne Restaurant in Hillsboro. Jaxxon's mother, Jan, made a special cake for the baptism.
Terry and Grace Stuchlik, Peter and Katie of Emporia were Saturday dinner and supper guests of Frances Stuchlik. They mowed her lawn, cleaned out gutters, and did other work for her.
Caleb and Abby Cooley of McPherson, Sonja Strecker of Hesston, Adele Lange of Newton, and Gary Williams of Hillsboro spent Saturday afternoon painting my barn red until they ran out of paint. Gary and Adele returned Sunday afternoon to paint until they too ran out of paint. I don't think they realized the barn was so large and high.
Larry Rudolph visited his sister Mary Helen Thursday in Herington. They attended the Herington fair and parade in the evening.
Don and Ramona Beisel, Tampa, visited Saturday evening with her mother, Frances Stuchlik.
Irma Reznicek and Bob attended the Knights of Columbus breakfast Sunday after Mass at the Pilsen Catholic church.
Due to the multiple inches of rain, Junior Hanschu, Mervin Deines, and other farmers are still combining wheat in the muddy fields. Leona Deines said the field corn is about ready to eat. I picked some cucumbers, beans, and squash from my garden this morning. Irma Reznicek said she was canning cherries.
Alex and Jean Stuchlik entertained their children, Bob and Debbie Burns and family, Rita Stuchlik of Wichita, Chris and Melissa Stuchlik and sons of rural Lincolnville, Gary and JoAnn Stuchlik and family of rural Marion, and Diann Enz and sons of Dallas, Texas, with a Sunday noon cookout dinner.
Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu went Thursday evening to the Herington fair and parade.
We extend our sympathy to the family of Joe Salacoone of Walpole, Mass., who died June 28. He was the husband of Madelyn (Reznicek) Salacoone.
