"Our Way of Saying Thank You" program was given by kindergarten through sixth grade at Centre Elementary School on Veterans Day. The program was conducted by Lynley Remy, music teacher. The "Star-Spangled Banner" was sung followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. After the CES honor choir performed "Veterans Day," the veterans in the audience were acknowledged. There were 11 veterans who told which branch of service they served and where they served. The students sang "This Beautiful Land We Share" followed by "You're a Grand Ol' Flag" and "God Bless America." Guests were served refreshments in the lunchroom after the program.
Those from our area who attended the Veterans Day program at CES Thursday were Ronnie and Leona Hajek, Larry Rudolph, Bill Novak, Evelyn Strecker, Hallie Novak, Angela Basore and two children, Matthew and Katie, Leona Deines, Jeff Deines, Terry Deines, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu.
Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu and family and Fred and Marguerite Utech attended Erich Utech's funeral Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona. Burial was in Lewis Cemetery, Ramona.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona, for the Rev. Donald E. Brunner. Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu attended services.
Mervin and Leona Deines attended the funerals of Erich Utech and the Rev. Donald E. Brunner.
Alex Stuchlik's band played Saturday night for Kelly Kroupa and Kim Ryff's wedding dance at Pilsen Community Building.
Adele Katz and Selma Ingram and their friend Linda of Lincolnville helped Jeannie Weber Sunday morning prepare and serve a breakfast buffet at Cheers II in Ramona. This was a benefit held for Jim Thompson and family of Ramona. Jim's wife, Terri died and her funeral was Monday at Pilsen Catholic church. Rosary was Sunday night at the church. Adele attended the rosary and funeral.
Gregory Stenzel and his mother, Betty Stenzel, went Friday night to see the play "Phantom Strikes Again" at Centre High School. Gregory's daughter, Nikki was in the play. Gregory and Becky Jackson attended the second showing of the play.
After church services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona, Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu ate lunch at Cheers II for the benefit given for the Jim Thompson family. Later they drove to Hillsboro to visit with Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon.
Douglas Strecker, Hesston, was my dinner guest Saturday. He put plastic on some windows in my chicken house, put my water hose away, and loaded some small square bales for a friend of his near Hesston who has horses.
Bob and Irma Reznicek attended the second annual Military Pilgrimage Thursday in Pilsen in honor of Father Kapaun. Edmund Reznicek, Roger, Ark., also attended with Bob and Irma and spent the rest of the week with them.
Gregory Stenzel and his mother, Betty Stenzel went to Erich Utech's funeral Wednesday morning at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona.
Leo Meysing and his son, Erick, Portland, Ore., visited Friday afternoon with Bob and Irma Reznicek and their guest, Edmund Reznicek. They also visited the Rezniceks Sunday afternoon before Edmund went home.
Leroy Biggs, Hitchcock, Okla., called my sister, Helen Schwartzman, Tampa, and she called me to let me know our cousin, George Pospisil, 93, El Reno, Okla., died Friday. Graveside service was held Monday morning at El Reno Cemetery. Survivors are a son, Curtis of Maryland and a daughter, Joyce of Florida, and grandchildren. George was the son of Frank and Anna (Benda) Pospisil who years ago lived near Lincolnville.
Edmund Reznicek and Bob Reznicek ate at Pizza Hut, Marion, Saturday evening after mass at St. Mark Catholic Church. Edmund took Bob and his mother, Irma to D's Café Thursday evening in Lost Springs for supper.
Gregory Stenzel, Betty Stenzel, and Frances Hanschu ate breakfast Sunday morning at Cheers II for the Thompson benefit.
John Reznicek, Marion, and brother Bob went hunting Sunday, then ate dinner at Ramona.
Trinity Fellowship Club of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona, gathered Sunday night at the parish hall for a meeting. They also played cards and had snacks. Present were Loren and Orval Brunner, Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu, Mervin and Leona Deines, Steve and Myrna Eskeldson, and Treva Schneider.
John Stika, Creston, Ohio, visited Bob and Irma Reznicek Tuesday evening while he was in Kansas on business for several days.
Patricia White, Florida, called Mervin Deines and told him her brother, Patrick, who lives at Hilltop Manor in Marion, had broken his hip. Patrick had surgery Monday at St. Luke Hospital. If you wish to mail a card to him, mail it to Patrick Tajchman, St. Luke Hospital, Marion KS 66861.
Scott Stroda, Herington, and Irma Reznicek accompanied Ralph and Betty Stroda, Herington, to Stillwell where they were overnight guests of Dan and Margie Sobozynski and family. They also were their dinner guests Saturday. They attended the wedding of Amanda Waner and Shane Kimm Saturday afternoon in Olathe at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. The supper, reception, and dance was held at Prince of Peace Catholic hall.
