Lost Springs: Birthdays in January overwhelm writer

The holidays are over. Now is the time to take down the decorations and the tree. It will seem like Christmas again in January — we have eight birthdays in our family this month.

Mervin and Leona Deines drove to Salina Sunday to visit Vernon and Bonnie Deines. They learned their granddaughter Summer is married and lives in Olathe. Granddaughter Stephanie Hanschu is a first and second grade teacher in Wichita and granddaughter Melissa Hanschu is in college.

Larry Rudolph was here Sunday to feed the cattle, then drove to his sister Karen's to have supper with her, Mike, and Renee.

Dr. Robert and Hallie Novak went to Great Bend Friday to visit Mike and Jo Smith and daughter Hallie. Since they were not able to be together for Christmas, they took their Christmas gifts to them.

Don and Ramona Beisel of Tampa, Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Ross Stuchlik, and Megan Luna visited Frances Stuchlik on Sunday.

Ronnie Hajek, Lost Springs fire chief, said he had a 30,000 gallon tank for water put in behind the Fire Department in Lost Springs. He said he has been getting water from Ramona since he could not find water around Lost Springs. He said springs in the creeks are going dry.

Alex Stuchlik's band played for the New Year's Eve dance at the community building in Pilsen.

My friend Violet Delgado of California called on New Year's Day. Violet and I graduated from Lost Springs High School 70 years ago in May. She likes to catch up on news of friends and relatives in and around Lost Springs.

John and Helen Reznicek hosted a New Year's Day noon meal of soup, sandwiches, and desserts. Guests were Bob and Carol Makovec, Jennifer Makovec of Salina, Darren Makovec and Shelby, Kenneth and Debbie Reznicek, Sarah, Nicholas and Nathan of Burlington, Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro, and Irma and Bob Reznicek.

John Stika of Orville, Ohio, went with Irma and Bob Reznicek to church services in Pilsen Sunday. After church they went to Butch's Diner in Tampa for dinner. Others who joined them were John and Helen Reznicek, Charles and Mary Loewen and Jeremy of Hillsboro, and Josie Loewen of Wichita. John and Mary visited Irma and Bob after dinner. Carol Makovec also dropped in and visited for a while.

Darren Makovec had coffee with Irma and Bob Reznicek Friday morning.

Fred and Marguerite Utech hosted a belated Christmas dinner and gift exchange on Saturday. Those attending were Garland and Dianna Utech and Lance of Amsterdam, Mo., Marlon and Jill Utech of Collierville, Tenn., Scott and Rachel Utech and Westley of Steelville, Mo., Amy Gregory of Butler, Mo., Sally Utech of Lawrence, Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob and Jorge of Hillsboro, Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, Neil and Jolene Albrecht and Kallie of Salina, and Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu.

Candy Stuchlik, daughter of Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, married Mike Thode at 7 p.m. Dec. 27 at St. Teresa Catholic Church, McPherson. A reception was held at Wright and Iron Inn Bed and Breakfast. Those staying overnight at the inn were Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Dan and Melissa Stuchlik of Wichita, Ross Stuchlik, Megan Luna, and Frances Stuchlik. They ate breakfast there the next morning.

Irma Reznicek and Bob hosted a Christmas party for John and Helen Reznicek, Marion; Bob and Carol Makovec; Darren Makovec, Justin, Ryan, Dana, and Ellie; Randy and Colleen Klug, Brandon, Alison, and Nicole, Mark Makovec, Chanell and Hunter, and Troy and Robyn Heitfield, Drake, Taylor, and Madison, Herington; Jason Stika and friend Shelley and children Dalton and Cody, Lincolnville; Charles and Mary Loewen, Hillsboro; Josie Loewen, Wichita; John and Lori Torline, Jessica, Megan, Carolyn, and Matthew, Derby; Mike and Angie Stika, Macayla, Alex, and Miranda, Lincolnville; and Jennifer Makovec, Salina. They enjoyed refreshments, visiting, and exchanging gifts. They received a call from the John Stikas of Orville, Ohio, who wished they could be with them.

Christmas Eve supper guests of Alex and Jean Stuchlik were Christopher and Melissa Stuchlik and family, Gary and Jo Ann Stuchlik and family, and Rita Stuchlik.

Christmas Eve guests of Mervin and Leona Deines were Jeff and Gayla Deines, Jessica, Shelby, and Justin, Terry and Julie Deines, Makenzie and Dylan, and Ross and Debbie Coup, Samantha and Adam of Hope.

Marcel and Irma Benda drove to Salina Dec. 30 to attend the funeral of Clarence Blatha at St. Covenant Church.

I was so sorry to hear of the death of Mary (Klenda) Stika whose funeral was Monday morning at the Pilsen Catholic church. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Jeff Sharping, Andrea, Lizzie, and Bobbie of Wichita visited Frances Stuchlik Dec. 28.

Christmas Day supper guests of Charles and Mary Loewen at the their home at Hillsboro were John and Helen Reznicek, Bob and Carol Makovec, Jennifer Makovec, Jason Stika, Jeremy Loewen and friend Dionne Jost of Hillsboro, Josie Loewen, and Irma and Bob Reznicek.

Christmas Day guests of Alex and Jean Stuchlik were Bob and Debbie Burns and children, Marcel and Mary Jane Steiner, and Rita Stuchlik of Wichita and Gary and Jo Ann Stuchlik and family.

Mervin Deines attended the Christmas Eve program at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington and his wife Leona attended the program at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lincolnville. They had grandchildren participating in each of the programs. On Dec. 22, Mervin and Leona attended the Trinity Lutheran program in Ramona. On Christmas Day they ate dinner at the home of Terry and Julie Deines, Makenzie and Dylan. Additional guests were Julie's parents, Charles and Yvonne Miller of Herington.

Frances Stuchlik spent Christmas Eve with Monty and Sarah Stuchlik. The Beisel and Stuchlik families gathered at the Lincolnville Community Building on Christmas Day for dinner and a gift exchange.

Terry and Grace Stuchlik, Peter, Katie, and Mike of Emporia visited Frances Stuchlik Saturday afternoon.
