Lost Springs: Deines celebrates 11th birthday years ago

Steve Katz and friend Greg drove to Lawrence Friday to visit Steve's sister Barbie and her friend B until Sunday afternoon.

Jeff and Gayla Deines hosted a party Saturday evening for their daughter Shelby's 11th birthday. Guests were Charles and Darlene Gutsch of Burdick, Mervin and Leona Deines, Terry and Julie Deines, Makenzie and Dylan, Ross and Debbie Coup, Samantha and Adam of Hope, Rosemary Deines and Perry Gutsch, Whitney and Anthony of Herington, Kathy Heiser, Stephanie and Christa of Tampa, and Jessica and Justin Deines.

Ramona Senior Center did not hold its monthly potluck dinner and social hour Jan. 16 due to the weather. Plans are to hold it Feb. 20.

Frances Stuchlik accompanied Monty and Sarah Stuchlik to Wichita Sunday to attend the baptism at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church of Nicholas Martin, son of Brian and Jan Sharping. Father Dick Stuchlik of Hutchinson officiated at the ceremony. A reception followed in the church hall. En route home, the Stuchliks stopped to see Sarah's sister Pat for a while.

Irma and Bob Reznicek attended Centre High School's winter homecoming coronation Friday evening at the Centre-St. Xavier basketball game. Theme song was "Landslide" by the Dixie Chicks.

Emmett and Minnie Sroufe of Garden Plain visited Larry Rudolph one day last week.

Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona, is serving a chicken noodle and vegetable soup dinner Sunday after church services.

After Mass Sunday at the Pilsen church, Irma and Bob Reznicek attended the roast beef and ham dinner given by the community center board.

We sure did welcome the two to three inches of snow Wednesday night. There still is some snow along the fences and buildings. Since it was over 60 degrees Sunday afternoon, I shut off my gas stoves and opened the doors. The animals were relishing the warmth of the spring-like air. Several of the farmers are experiencing their cows calving at this time of the year.

A birthday celebration was held Sunday afternoon at the Marion Manor dining room for Pauline Makovec's 87th birthday. Among those attending were Sy and Pat Martin of Andale, Bob and Carol Makovec, Darren and Amy Makovec, Ellie and Shelby, Randy and Colleen Klug, Alison and Nicole and Troy and Robyn Heitfield, Taylor and Madison of Herington, Jennifer Makovec of Salina, Jane Makovec, and Irma and Bob Reznicek.

Jakob and Jorge Hanschu of Hillsboro stayed with their grandparents, Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu, Saturday while their parents, Jayson and Jan Hanschu, went to Manhattan to attend an American Family Insurance banquet.

Irma Reznicek accompanied Mary Loewen to Derby Monday morning to visit John and Lori Torline, Jennifer, Megan, Carolyn, and Matthew.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik went to Newton Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Ensz and their houseguests, Tom and Diann Ensz, Jacob, Colton, and Kyle of Laredo, Texas
