Lost Springs: Fire department busy with calls

The Lost Springs Fire Department was busy with calls on the Fourth of July and also at other times, such as stubble fires.
Commodities will not be distributed this month at the Ramona Senior Center. Next distribution will be in September.
The family of Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Brunner hosted a hamburger fry Sunday evening in honor of their father's 80th birthday. Guests included Mervin and Leona Deines and other friends.
Frances Stuchlik, who works in the kitchen at the Herington Lutheran Nursing Home, said they had Fourth of July fireworks on the lawn for the residents. They plan to take residents to the Tri-County Fair parade which begins July 9.
Janene Sader and Gene Powell of Lincolnville hosted a Fourth of July supper. Guests were Adele Katz and Steve, Barbie Katz of Lawrence, Charles and Lori Smithhart of Hillsboro, Larry and Connie Jenkins, Oaklan and Tia, and Selma Ingram. After the supper, the Jenkins and Selma attended the fireworks show at Herington Lake. Adele, Steve, Barbie, Charles, and Lori went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hageberg in Burdick for fireworks.
Douglas Strecker of Hesston spent the Fourth with me. We had a steak dinner with fresh creamed peas and potatoes from my garden and sliced cucumbers from Douglas' garden. It was a very hot day. He installed my window air conditioner and mowed my lawn.
Edmund Reznicek has returned to his home in Rogers, Ark., after helping Bob Reznicek with harvest for over a week.
Frances Stuchlik said her Fourth of July visitors were her brother Joe Holub of Haysville and his daughter Tish Holub of Lawrence, and Mike and Candee Thode and Melissa Stuchlik of Wichita. Ruby and Stanley Sharping of Wichita came by.
John Reznicek of Marion and Bob Makovec helped Bob Reznicek with harvest last week.
My granddaughter Sonja Strecker of Dallas, Texas, called me Saturday evening to wish me a "Happy Fourth of July." She is an assistant leader for three weeks of the Christ of the Nations camp. There will be 500 children from all nations attending the camp.
Frances Stuchlik went to Tampa Wednesday and spent the day with Don and Ramona Beisel and was their dinner guest. Ramona has had surgery and is slowly recovering.
Irma Reznicek and Bob attended the Fourth of July celebration.
Clark and Austin Strecker and Lara Drebot of Andover stopped in Thursday evening to get the boat. They went on to Omaha, Neb., to spend the Fourth of July weekend. They stopped en route home to Andover Sunday evening and were my supper guests.
Mary Loewen of Hillsboro helped her mother with work one day during harvest.
I talked on Saturday with my son, Lowell T. Strecker in San Antonio, Texas. He said it was 70 degrees and had been raining since Thursday. Since it is so dry here, it takes a lot of watering of flowers and gardens and keeping the livestock tank full of water.
The Alex Stuchlik Polka Band played at the Fourth of July celebration in Ramona. Alex attended the funeral of Timothy Klenda Monday morning at the Pilsen church.
Irma Reznicek also attended Timothy Klenda's funeral.
Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob and Jorge of Hillsboro were guests of Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu on the Fourth of July. Other guests of the Hanschus on Friday and Saturday were Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, Neil and Jolene Albrecht and Kallie Jo of Salina. All attended the Fourth of July parade and fireworks.
Sally Utech of Lawrence was a guest of Fred and Marguerite Utech from Thursday to Sunday afternoon.
The Junior Hanschus joined other guests Sunday afternoon in helping Lauren Brunner celebrate his 80th birthday.

The radio announced Saturday morning that there would be hail three miles east of Ramona — and there was! Junior Hanschu said there was pea-sized hail that covered their year. I didn't have any and I live one and a half miles south of them. But, I did have a few Sunday morning. There was 1/4 inch of rain Saturday morning and an inch Sunday morning.
Edmund Reznicek of Rogers, Ark., came Wednesday to help Bob Reznicek haul wheat to the elevator.
Alex and Jean Stuchlik and Christopher and Melissa Stuchlik and family when to the home of Gary and Jo Ann Stuchlik Sunday night to help Maria celebrate her second birthday.
It was sad to hear of the deaths of Ernie Stika, 48, son of Lou and Tillie Stika, and Kenny Steiner, 49, son of Mable Steiner and the late Hubert Steiner. Kenny Steiner's Rosary was Sunday night at the Pilsen church with his funeral Monday morning. Ernie Stika's Rosary and funeral were Monday afternoon. Several in the community attended services for both of the men.
Kenny Reznicek, Nathan and Nicholas of Burlington came Friday to help Bob Reznicek with the wheat harvest.
Kenny Stuchlik and Patrick of Towanda helped Monty and Ross Stuchlik combine wheat on Wednesday.
Mervin and Leona Deines took off from farming Friday night to attend a ball game in Hope where their grandson Adam Coup was playing.
Neil and Jolene Albrecht and Kallie Jo of Salina were guests of Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu from Friday to Sunday afternoon. Neil came to help Junior harvest.
Edmund Reznicek visited his cousins, Larry and Judy Zedek of Marshall County, Sunday noon at their campsite at Marion Reservoir.
Vernon Deines of Wichita helped Mervin Deines and sons during the wheat harvest. He ran the combine.
Bob and Irma Reznicek had Sunday dinner at Butch's Diner in Tampa.
Jeff Sharping, Andy and Billie of Wichita helped Monty Stuchlik harvest on Saturday.
I talked to my sister Estella Kohler of Silver Spring, Md., on Sunday. She underwent heart surgery June 10. She told me she felt good and was on her way to recovery. Max said he preferred playing golf to being a nurse.
Monty and Sarah Stuchlik and Ross picked up Frances Stuchlik on Sunday and drove to Hutchinson to attend Mass, a farewell dinner, and a tribute in honor of Father Dick Stuchlik who is being transferred to St. Margaret Mary Parish in Wichita.
Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob and Jorge of Hillsboro visited Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu Sunday afternoon.
Bill and Dollye Novak recently returned from San Antonio, Texas, where they visited their son Major and Mrs. Bill Novak and family. Dollye said it really was hot and humid while they were there.
Kyla Stuchlik, who is attending college in Colby, and a friend are visiting Mr. and Mrs. John Stuchlik in Lincolnville. They plan to visit Kyla's grandmother, Frances Stuchlik, Monday morning.
Johnnie Miller, son of Lynn and Becky Miller of Cave Creek, Ariz., spent two weeks visiting Monty and Sarah Stuchlik and Ross and Frances Stuchlik. He returned to his home Sunday afternoon.
