Lost Springs: Reznicek, Makovecs attend weekend graduations, receptions

Irma Reznicek accompanied Bob and Carol Makovec to Derby May 20. They joined other relatives and friends at a reception in honor of Jennifer Torline at Bishop Carroll High School. Jennifer graduated Sunday. She is the daughter of John and Lori Torline of Derby.

After the graduation Saturday, Bob and Carol Makovec and Irma Reznicek drove to Burlington to attend a reception in honor of Kary Reznicek, who graduated from Emporia State University the week before. They also celebrated the twins, Nathan and Nicholas Reznicek's promotion from eighth grade Saturday evening. They are the children of Kenneth and Debbie Reznicek of Burlington.

The Makovecs and Irma Reznicek drove on to Topeka where they spent Saturday night. They attended Mass Sunday morning in Holton, where they attended a baptism for a friend of Jennifer Makovec of Salina. Jennifer was a sponsor.

That afternoon, they attended Ella Fund Reznicek's commencement at Wetmore High School. They joined other friends for a reception in honor of Ella at the home of her parents, Ed and Mary Fund Reznicek. The reception also was in honor of their son, Evan for his eighth grade promotion.

Fred and Marguerite Utech accompanied Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu to Hillsboro the evening of May 19 to attend Jorge Hanschu's Lucky Duck Preschool graduation at Trinity Mennonite Church.

Selma Ingram informed me her brother, John Peterson of Edwardsville had surgery May 23 and is doing OK.

Clark Strecker of Rose Hill visited me Tuesday afternoon. He spent the day spraying thistles. Douglas Strecker of Hesston spent Friday and Saturday working some ground. He was my dinner guest both days.

Tia Jenkins spent Friday night with grandmother, Selma Ingram.

Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu attended Centre High School commencement May 21. After the ceremony they joined others for a reception in honor of Rachel Davis, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Clark Davis of Tampa at St. John Lutheran Church, Tampa.

Irma Reznicek accompanied her sister, Betty Stroda of Herington May 24 to the home of Ruby Holub, rural Marion. The women went to Marion to attend Mass in memory of Ruby's late husband, Ernest. Ruby took Irma and Betty out for dinner and they spent the rest of the day celebrating Irma and Betty's birthdays.

The farmers are working the ground and planting milo. We got just a light shower lately.

Arlene Kleinschmidt and Dolores Albrecht of Lincolnville visited May 20 with Mildred Hajek.

Frances Stuchlik drove to Tampa May 21 to have dinner with Don and Ramona Beisel.

Bob Reznicek accompanied John and Helen Reznicek to Derby May 20 where they attended a reception in honor of graduate Jennifer Torline at the home of her parents, John and Lori Torline.

Marilyn Stuchlik and daughters, Lynea and Sonya Carilla of Wichita visited May 21 with Frances Stuchlik.

Trent Hajek, who attended Salina Vo Tech, is planning to spend the summer with his parents, Ronnie and Leona Hajek before returning to school next fall.

Charles Tajchman of Marion visited May 24 with his aunt, Frances Stuchlik.

Randy and Karen Stuchlik and family of Abilene visited May 23 with Frances Stuchlik. Their son, Andy, joined the Navy and will be leaving May 29 for Chicago for basic training.

I went to Heirngton May 23 to visit Gerald and Shirley Dix. Gerald is not too well.

May 11-17

Kenny and Melinda Stuchlik and Alecia of Towanda visited and stayed overnight Friday at the Frances Stuchlik home. They went Saturday to Manhattan to attend their son, Jason's graduation at Kansas State University. They returned in the afternoon to Frances' home. Matthew of Manhattan, son of Kenny and Melinda, joined them Saturday night.

Larry and Connie Jenkins, Oaklan and Tia hosted a Mother's Day supper. Guests were Adele Katz and son, Steve and grandma, Selma Ingram. Oaklan and Tia were guests Saturday night of Selma.

Laura Drebot of Rose Hill visited Thursday afternoon with Evelyn Strecker after interviewing and receiving a job with Union Pacific Railroad at Herington.

Mary Helen Black and son, Micky of Herington visited Monday night with Larry Rudolph.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik attended the Catholic Rural Life meeting and Mass Friday at Elmo. Before Mass Alex entertained by playing the accordion during dinner.

Fred and Marguerite Utech and Mrs. B. Albrecht of Herington accompanied Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu Monday to Salina to attend the Angel Academy Preschool graduation. Kallie Albrecht, daughter of Neil and Jolene Albrecht was one of the graduates. Cookies and punch were served.

Adele Katz was at my place Thursday afternoon to get some alfalfa bales for a friend. She visited with Laura and me.

Gary and JoAnn Stuchlik and family of Pilsen were Mother's Day dinner guests of Alex and Jean Stuchlik.

Clark, Laura, and Austin Strecker of Rose Hill picked me up Saturday and took me to Kingfisher Steakhouse & Lounge at Marion County Lake for a pre-Mother's Day dinner. Afterward we drove around the lake for sightseeing and then went to Marion Manor to visit Uncle Emil Pospisil, my brother. He was glad to see us. When we returned home Clark trimmed a white lilac bush and checked the electric fence around the pasture while Laura and Austin were target practicing. Clark was my Tuesday dinner guest. He mowed the lawn and rototilled the garden. He also brought channel catfish he caught the night before.

Raelene Hajek drove May 9 to Goodland to visit Jon and Lynette McLean, Josie, Cade, and Maggie. They attended Cade's school program that evening. They watched Cade and Maggie's soccer game Wednesday night and Raelene returned home Thursday.

Douglas and Marsha Strecker of Hesston and Sonja Strecker of Newton came Mother's Day to spend time with me after visiting Marsha's folks, Reign and Marlene Anduss at Ramona. They gave me a microwave oven as a gift. Lowell Strecker of San Antonio, Texas, called that afternoon to wish me a happy Mother's Day.

Paul and Raelene Hajek visited Saturday evening with his mother, Mildred Hajek.

Don and Ramona Beisel of Tampa visited Saturday with her mother, Frances Stuchlik. Others visiting that day included Terry and Grace Stuchlik, Mike, Katie, and Peter, and their daughter, Kim and husband Kelly Davis, all of Emporia.

Farmers are busy having their alfalfa swathed and baled. Worms have done considerable damage to some fields.

Bob and Carol Makovec, Kenneth Reznicek and son, Kory of Burlington, Mary and Charles Loewen of Hillsboro, Mark Makovec and Hunter of Herington, Jennifer Makovec, Paul Forrester and children, Regan and Tatum of Salina, John and Lori Torline, Megan, Carolyn, and Matthew of Derby, and Irma and Bob Reznicek were Mother's Day guests of John and Helen Reznicek for a potluck meal and cookout at Marion Reservoir.

Ruby Scharping of Wichita took her mother, Frances Stuchlik and Matthew Stuchlik of Manhattan out for Mother's Day dinner at Herington. Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Ross and Megan Stuchlik of Tampa, Kyle Stuchlik and friend, Jenika Allenbach of Moundridge joined Ruby and Matthew as guests of Frances. Frances' other children called to wish her happy Mother's Day.

Mildred Hajek was a Mother's Day dinner guest of Ronnie and Leona Hajek. Other guests were sons, Brett of Newton and Darren and Trent of Salina. Gary and Vicki Hajek visited his mother, Mildred in the evening. Mildred's visitor Wednesday morning was son, Jerome of Marion.

Memorial Day services will be held at 10 a.m. at Lost Springs Cemetery. Lost Springs High School alumni is in charge of the program.
