Douglas Strecker picked me up Thursday morning. We picked up Douglas' son and wife Yancy and Julie Strecker in Newton and continued on to Dallas, Texas. We arrived at Sonja Strecker's apartment in time to see her dressed in a beautiful dark blue formal as she and some classmates were going to a banquet in Dallas. Friday morning, Douglas, Yancy, Julie, and I met Lowell and Carla Strecker of San Antonio, Texas at the Red Roof Inn.. We ate breakfast together before attending the Christ for the Nation's Institute spring commencement where 400 students graduated with a degree in theology. Douglas' daughter Sonja was one of the graduates which were from many countries as well as other states in the USA. Before leaving for home, Douglas entertained all of us in Sonja's honor with a dinner at the Spaghetti Warehouse in downtown Dallas. Tessa Butler and her mother of Newton were additional guests. We were very lucky while returning home. We drove through Oklahoma City a half hour before the tornado hit the south part of the city. We did see destruction on both sides of I-35.
Larry Jenkins and four of his TWDO students took first place and received a trophy Saturday at a meet in Topeka.
Clark Strecker was my Saturday dinner guest. He mowed my lawn and wished me a happy Mother's Day. Lowell and Carla gave me a good smelling bottle of perfume for Mother's Day. Douglas called me on Mother's Day.
Frances Stuchlik accompanied Don and Ramona Beisel of Tampa to Wichita where they were guests at a potluck dinner at the home of Stanley and Ruby Stuchlik. Frances said she received calls from her other children. She was surprised when she received a call from Olga (Stuchlik) Tsumpes of California.
Alex and Jean Stuchlik went to church in Pilsen Sunday, then went to Salina. Chris and Melissa Stuchlik and family of Tampa and Gary and Jo Ann Stuchlik and family of Marion visited them for a while in the evening.
I had a surprise Sunday afternoon when Willis Peterson stopped to wish me a happy Mother's Day. He had taken some cattle to a pasture in Dickinson County. Selma Ingram called in the evening to wish me happy Mother's Day.
Larry Rudolph stopped in Saturday afternoon as he was en route to Herington to visit his sister, Mary Helen Black and sons.
Jerome Hajek of Marion visited his mother Mildred Hajek on Friday. Paul and Raelene Hajek and Gary and Vicki Hajek visited her Mother's Day evening.
Frances and Mildred Hajek attended Sylvin Holub's funeral Friday morning.
Irma and Bob Reznicek accompanied Bob and Carol Makovec to Wichita Saturday where they attended commencement exercises at Newman University. Josie Loewen, daughter of Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro, was one of the graduates. The Loewens hosted a luncheon for relatives and friends in Josie's honor at her apartment. En route home, Bob, Carol, Irma, and Bob stopped in Mount Hope to visit Bob Makovec's sister Patsy and husband Sy Martin.
Bob and Carol Makovec, Jennifer Makovec of Salina, Amy Makovec and daughters Dona, Ellie, and Shelby, Bob and Irma Reznicek, and Ralph and Betty Stroda and son Scott ate at the Rockin' V Restaurant Sunday in honor of Mother's Day,
We had hail and 1 1/2 inches of rain Friday night. Irma Reznicek said the hail destroyed the lettuce in her garden.
I attended the Marion County Historical Society's special meeting and dinner Monday at The Big Scoop in Marion.
