Mervin Deines and boys, Jeff and Terry were busy cutting and chopping corn south of my place this past week. They put it in a trench silo to be fed to cattle this coming winter. Wish we had gotten some rain in this area like they did around Hillsboro.
Irma Reznicek accompanied her daughter, Mary Loewen of rural Hillsboro to Derby Thursday where they visited Lori Torline, Megan, Carolyn, and Matthew. One the way home between Newton and Hillsboro, they drove in a torrential rain. In places they drove through water as high as the bumper.
Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu attended the 50th wedding anniversary dinner Saturday evening in honor of Glenn and Beverly Bayes of Herington at Herington Community Building. A dance followed the dinner.
Alex and Jean Stuchlik drove to Chanute Saturday where they attended the wedding of Jean's nephew, Tyson Watts at St. Patrick Catholic Church. They also attended the reception and dinner. They visited Sunday with Kelby and Rita Schawe at Wichita.
Larry Rudolph visited Friday night with me after he checked the battery of the electric fence. He also checked the oil in my car and changed a light bulb in the kitchen.
Steve and Glenda Schmidt of McPherson and George and Sharon Schutte of Lehigh visited Saturday evening with me. They are associated with Northwest Santa Fe Trail and asked me for some history.
Jakob Hanschu of Hillsboro spent from Thursday to Saturday with his grandparents, Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu. Grandpa got him and took him back.
Jayson and Jan Hanschu hosted a supper Sunday evening in honor of their son Jorge's fifth birthday. Guests were great-grandparents, Fred and Marguerite Utech, grandparents, Joe and Joan Nowak of Pilsen and Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu, Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, Jolene Albrecht, Kallie and Morgan of Salina, and friends and neighbors. Jorge blew out the candles on his Batman cake. Ice cream was served, then Jorge opened his gifts.
I talked Sunday evening with Marsha and Douglas Strecker of Peabody. Marsha said Hesston Forage is shut down for two weeks. Douglas wanted to know if my lawn needs mowing. I told him when I walk on the grass it sound crunchy — it is so dry.
Micky Black of Herington visited Sunday afternoon with his uncle, Larry Rudolph.
