Lost Springs: Tia Jenkins is six years old

Larry and Connie Jenkins hosted a birthday party a week ago Sunday for their daughter, Tia. They celebrated her sixth birthday at the Herington Park, where "Stop and Go" and other games were played. Those attending were Tia's sister Oaklan, her grandmother Selma Ingram, Adele and Steve Katz, Charles and Lori Smithhart and Michael and Heidi Jenkins and Ian of Hillsboro, Barbie Katz and B of Lawrence, and other friends.
I was sorry to hear of the death of Joe Zinn on Aug. 31. His funeral was Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington. Known as Uncle Joe to many, he was 93 and a graduate of Lost Springs High School.
Noreen Weems, Director of Aging, called a special meeting Aug 28 at the Ramona Senior Center. Those present included Kim Antoszyk, president; Evelyn Strecker, secretary-treasurer; Norma Bird, director, and Magdalen Bentz, executive director. Antoszyk appointed Bird and Strecker on the nominating committee for the election in September. They also were appointed as hostesses for the potluck dinner to be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Ramona Senior Center. Election will be held after the meal and Bingo will be played. Everyone is welcome. Noreen and Evelyn served refreshments of cookies and tea after the meeting.
Mervin and Leona Deines attended the Burdick Labor Day parade. They attended the recent dinner honoring Alfred and Darlene Sondergard's 60th wedding anniversary at Trinity parish hall.
Clark Strecker, Austin and Tailor and cousin Sarah of Andover, Laura Trebolt of Omaha, Neb., and Douglas Strecker of Hesston were my guests Aug. 31. We celebrated Austin's 10th birthday. I bake and iced and angel food cake and Austin decorated his own birthday cake. After dinner, Clark and Austin moved my lawn, Laura did the weed-eating, and Douglas worked in the field. Tailor and Sarah played with their doll house, merry-go-round, and dolls. The Clark Streckers stayed until Sunday evening.
Alex and Jean Stuchlik attended Joe and JoAnn Nowak's 45th anniversary dance Saturday night at the Pilsen Community Center. Alex's band played at the Burdick Labor Day celebration. Alex said it was hot and his son Gary had a hard time holding the tuba.
Leona Deines, Bob and Irma Reznicek, and myself attended Maudie Vinduska's funeral Tuesday morning at St. Mark Catholic Church.
Mervin and Leona Deines attended the funeral of Merle Albrecht Tuesday afternoon at the Lincolnville Lutheran church. They attended the Hope Heritage celebration on Saturday.
Gregory Stenzel, his daughter, Nikki, Becky Jackson, and Betty Stenzel attended the Burdick Labor Day parade. Nikki marched with the Centre band and was on the 7th and 8th grade cheerleaders' float.
Micky Black of Herington visited me for a while on Labor Day, then visited his uncle, Larry Rudolph. Sean McElroy of El Dorado and friends have been doing a lot of dove hunting in the evening at Larry Rudolph's. I can hear them shooting.
Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro and Bob and Carol Makovec visited Bob and Irma Reznicek a week ago Sunday night. The Makovecs picked up Irma on Labor Day and went to Burdick where they ate dinner at the Centre FFA stand and attended the parade.
Gregory Stenzel, Nikki Stenzel, Becky Jackson, and Betty Stenzel drove to Junction City Sunday and had dinner.
Sharyn Mueller of Olathe, Tammy Faris of Overland Park, and Jo Hanschu of Kansas City picked up Frances Hanschu Sunday morning. They went to Salina and picked up Cindy Beneke and Brittany and Clinton Hanschu at Kenwood Nursing Home. All ate dinner at the Pizza Hut. After dinner, they returned to the nursing home where they were celebrating Grandparents' Day. The home served ice cream, punch, and cake. En route home, Sharyn, Tammy, Jo, and Frances stopped to visit Maxine Mueller for a while in rural Tampa. Clinton said Karen Karber of Salina stops in and visits him now and then.
Bob and Carol Makovec picked up Irma Reznicek Tuesday morning. They attended Maudie Vinduska's funeral, then went to Marion Manor to visit Pauline Makovec.
Douglas Strecker and Larry Rudolph were at my place Saturday evening to bring in the brome grass large bales to be fed during the winter. They also were supper guests.
Edmond Reznicek of Rogers, Ark., came Thursday and stayed with Irma and Bob Reznicek until Sunday evening. He took Irma and Bob to Al's Café Thursday for supper. He came to attend the anniversary celebration of Joe and JoAnn Nowak.
Some of those who attended Joe Zinn's funeral Saturday morning were Bill and Dollye Novak, Doc and Hallie Novak, Bob and Betty Bevan, John Strome, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Southers, Miss Nerebout, Leslie Kitchenmaster, Evelyn Strecker, and Jim Wyatt.
Naomi Fike is in Salina in rehab. We wish her a speedy recovery.
Four-year-old Dylan Deines, son of Terry and Julie Deines rode his gator Saturday in the Hope Heritage parade.
