Lost Springs: Tornadoes and Thanksgiving fill holiday season

There were quite exciting moments Sunday afternoon for residents south of Pilsen to Lost Springs. They sighted a tornado that dipped down east of Pilsen and southwest of Centre High School and west of Lost Springs. Each time it touched it was in an open field. Frances Stuchlik went into her bathroom and the Hajeks left their homes when the tornado hit in the field just one-half mile south of them.
Mike and Karen Walsh hosted a birthday party for their daughter, Renee who was 20 years old Nov. 23 and a Thanksgiving Day dinner. Guests were Raymond and Connie Hastings of El Dorado, Mary Helen Black, Micky Black, and Lance Black of Herington, Paul, Kimberly and son, Alex of Wichita, and Larry Rudolph. Renee cut her birthday cake and opened gifts.
Adella Katz and son, Steve served a Thanksgiving Day dinner to Charles and Lori Smithhart of Hillsboro, William and Marianne Smithhart of Marion, B. Nadeo and Barbie Katz of Lawrence, Selma Ingram, and Larry and Connie Jenkins, Oaklan and Tia.
Kelby and Rita Schawe of Wichita spent from Friday to Sunday afternoon with her folks, Alex and Jean Stuchlik. Thanksgiving Day dinner guests of Alex and Jean were Kelby and Rita, Gary and JoAnn Stuchlik and family of Pilsen, and Robert and Debbie Burns and family of Wichita. Afternoon guests were Christopher and Melissa Stuchlik and family of Lincolnville.
John and Dianna Stika, Tavis, Gavin, and McCoy of Canton Ohio, John and Helen Reznicek of Marion, Bob and Carol Makovec, Mike and Angie Stika, Macayla, Alex, Miranda, and Aaron, Jason Stika, Shelley, Cody, and Dalton, and Bridget Burns of Lincolnville were Friday evening guests of Irma and Bob Reznicek. They had snacks and visited.
Alex Stuchlik's band played Saturday night for Tampa High School alumni at Tampa Senior Center.
Selma Ingram visited Saturday afternoon with me. She picked up some Christmas items I had ordered for her.
Emmett and Minnie Sroufe of Garden Plain visited Saturday morning with Larry Rudolph.
Irma and Bob Reznicek, Bob and Carol Makovec, and a friend and her daughter were Thanksgiving Day dinner guests of Randy and Colleen Klug, Nicole and Alison at Herington.
Douglas and Marsha Strecker and Matthew of Hesston hosted a post-Thanksgiving dinner Sunday noon. Guests were Chris and Jeri Strecker, Autumn and Chris Jr., of Hesston, Yancy and Julie Strecker and Gabriel, Sonja Strecker of Newton, Clark and Laura Strecker, Austin and Tailor of Rose Hill, and Evelyn Strecker. When Douglas picked me up that morning he said it is so much cooler here than Hesston. While the children were playing football after dinner, they were barefooted and without coats. We had the kitchen door open and a fan blowing.
Irma Reznicek accompanied Carol Makovec to Salina Friday where they met Tom and Janet Reznicek of Lawrence and Levi Reznicek of New York City, at a restaurant. They were returning from Hastings, Neb., where they met Sam and Lindsey Reznicek at Lindsey's mother's home for Thanksgiving.
Larry and Susan Stuchlik of Lehigh had Thanksgiving Day dinner with mom, Frances Stuchlik. They brought the turkey and trimmings. Randy Stuchlik and kids of Abilene came in the afternoon.
Alex Stuchlik and Charlene Svitak played Sunday afternoon for Leland Chizek's 80th birthday party held at Bailey's Tavern at Lincolnville.
Mildred Hajek accompanied her son, Ronnie and Leona Hajek and sons, Darren and Trent, Thanksgiving Day to Newton as dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Richmond and family. Brett Hajek who lives in Newton also was a dinner guest. After dinner they went to see Brett's new home.
Kenny and Melinda Stuchlik, Jason, Matthew, Patrick, and Alicia of Towanda were Thanksgiving Day dinner guests of her folks, John and Wanda Fox of Lehigh. In the evening they went to his mom, Frances Stuchlik's home and stayed overnight.
Mary Loewen of Hillsboro spent Tuesday with her mom, Irma Reznicek and they made Christmas peanut brittle. My daughter-in-law, Marsha Strecker, of Hesston also made Christmas candy including peanut butter, chocolate, and Boston fudge.
Marcel and Irma Benda visited Emil Pospisil Thanksgiving Day at Marion Manor at Marion.
I heard from my sister, Victoria Zell of Shelby, Mont., wishing me a happy Thanksgiving. Her son, Gregory and Norma were going to be with her for Thanksgiving Day dinner. Her grandson, Emiliana returned from Iraq. Weather is wintry and enough snow for skiing.
Larry and Connie Jenkins, Oaklan and Tia hosted a post-Thanksgiving dinner Friday. Guests were Michael Jenkins of Canton, Ian and Kaden Jenkins of Hillsboro, Selma Ingram, and Adella Katz.
Jason Stika of Lincolnville helped Bob Reznicek haul cattle Friday. Bob said a couple of his cows had calves during the cold weather.
Larry Rudolph accompanied me Friday to Marion. We went to the FSA office, visited my brother, Emil Pospisil at Marion Manor, and did some shopping.
Fred and Marguerite Utech were Thanksgiving dinner guests of Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu. Edna Mueller and Dolores Siggs were evening visitors.
Garland and Dianna Utech and Lance Utech and Alexandria of Amsterdam, Mo., and Scott and Rachel Utech and Westley of Steelville, Mo., and Amy Gregory of Kansas City, Mo., were Friday and Saturday overnight guests of Fred and Marguerite Utech.
Marlon and Jill Utech of Collierville, Tenn., and Raymond Utech and Meredith Price of Portland, Ore., were Saturday overnight guests of Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu.
Marguerite Utech was the guest of honor Saturday evening at an 80th birthday party. The group ate at Olde Towne Restaurant at Hillsboro and then gathered at the Jayson and Jan Hanschu home in rural Hillsboro for visiting and birthday cake. Others attending were Fred Utech, Garland and Dianna Utech, Lance Utech and Alexandria, Amy Gregory, Scott and Rachel Utech and Westley, Marlon and Jill Utech, Raymond Utech, Meredith Price, Sally Utech, Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon, Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua, Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Kallie and Morgan, and Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu.
