Lost Springs: Women attend meeting in Aulne

Evelyn Strecker accompanied Mary Olson, Marion, to Aulne on Monday where we joined 30 members of Marion County Historical Society and visitors at the United Methodist Church. We enjoyed a chicken chowder and vegetable soup, salad, and pie dinner. After dinner history was given of Aulne and a video shown of the town and a parade in 1987.
At the meeting it was decided we would go to Alexanderwohl church, Goessel, in March. Our annual meeting in June will be at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion.
After the meeting I accompanied Mary to a farm south of Hillsboro where her nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. David Gaines, were building a new home. David's sister from Wisconsin was helping with the painting and papering.
I went to Tampa Wednesday morning to do some banking. En route to Ramona and Herington, I stopped to visit my sister Helen Schwartzman and her son, John, who was there to put the last coat of paint on the garage.
Mervin Deines and his brother Weldon of Herington drove to Manhattan Saturday to watch the Kansas State University football game.
Frances Stuchlik served supper on Sunday to Larry and Susan Stuchlik of Lehigh.
Frances Stuchlik was a dinner guest of Monty and Sarah Stuchlik on Saturday. That afternoon, Don and Ramona Beisel, Tampa, visited Frances at her home.
Mervin and Leona Deines and Weldon Deines went to Manhattan Friday night to watch the Kansas State University women's basketball team play Ball State.
Larry and Connie Jenkins and girls visited Sunday night with Selma Ingram.
Don and Norma Bird attended the turkey dinner Sunday at the Rosebank Church.
Lost Springs American Legion Auxiliary met Thursday afternoon at Evelyn Strecker's home. Christmas gift items were collected for the veterans of Colmery O'Neil Hospital to give to their families and dollar bills for veterans. Evelyn gave a report of the Coffee Tour that was held at the Lutheran church in Lincolnville in October. Correspondence was read and discussed. It was decided to give Bell Beams, our adopted veteran at Marion Manor, a Christmas gift.
After the meeting Dollye Novak, Hallie Novak, and I drove to Patricia Zinn's home to visit and presented Patricia with a ribbon and a Gold Star pin for the dedicated service for the veterans as a member of Lost Springs American Legion Auxiliary, Howard Dickerson Unit #355, for 53 years, and being a Gold Star Sister. Her brother was killed in World War II.
Afterward we drove to Herington to visit Mildred Blair. She also was presented a Gold Star Pin for her dedicated service for the veterans as a 50-year member of the auxiliary.
Hallie Novak visited her brother John Schlesener Thursday evening at the Herington Lutheran Home.
Selma Ingram took care of Tia Jenkins while her parents, Larry and Connie Jenkins and sister Oaklan, went to Topeka Saturday for Tri Condo.
Mervin and Leona Deines, Weldon and Rosemary Deines, Herington, Curtis and Jennifer Deines, Sterling, Colo., went to Manhattan Sunday to watch Kansas State University women's basketball team play Georgia Tech's team.
Commodities will be handed out at the Ramona Senior Center from 1-4 p.m. Friday.
Dr. Bob Novak had prostate surgery Friday at the Salina Regional Hospital. He is at home recovering.
Carol Makovec picked up her mother, Irma Reznicek, Saturday afternoon and they went to the home of Troy and Robyn Hettfield, Herington, to celebrate Taylor's seventh birthday. There were other relatives and friends present. Ice cream and cake were served.
Jakob and Jorge Hanschu, Hillsboro, spent Friday night and Saturday morning with great-grandparents, Fred and Marguerite Utech. Saturday afternoon and evening were spent with grandparents, Junior and Jeanette Hanschu where their folks, Jayson and Jan Hanschu picked them up.
Irma Reznicek and Betty Stroda accompanied Larry and Marsha Bina to Manhattan Sunday where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Sylvin Holub and attended a layette shower for Gary and Dawn Holub's adopted daughter, Nicole. Hostesses were Mrs. John Holub, Hays, and Mrs. Rodney Holub, Manhattan. Cake and ice cream were served.
Jolene Albrecht and daughter Kallie, Salina, spent Friday afternoon with Junior and Jeanette Hanschu.
Irma and Bob Reznicek went to the NC+ appreciation dinner Thursday night at Tampa Senior Center.
Tom Reznicek, Baldwin City, was a Sunday morning till Monday night guest of Irma and Bob Reznicek. He helped brothers Bob and John combine Bob's milo. Bob Makovec and Tom helped Bob harvest milo on Monday.
