I have been busy painting the milk house. What is a milk house? When I was a young girl, we milked as many as 15 cows on the north side of our barn. We carried the buckets of milk to the milk house where the milk was separated with a cream separator. We turned it by hand. The milk would be poured into a large bowl. As we turned the handle of the separator, the cream would come out of one spout into a container and the skim milk would come out of another spout into a bucket. Much of the skim milk would be fed to hogs and cats. Cream would be used for cooking and making butter.
