Lost Springs American Legion Auxiliary met Thursday afternoon at the home of Hallie Novak. Chaplain Dollye Novak led in prayer. Treasurer Hallie Novak reported she had mailed a valentine to our adopted veteran, Bill Bean at Marion Manor nursing home. It was voted to mail $10 for Quarters for Kids to the fourth district treasurer to help pay for two high school scholarships. The unit plans to furnish stamps, coffee, cookies, and briefs for veterans at Colmery O'Neil VA Hospital, Topeka. The hostess served lunch and gave door prizes.

It was nice to receive better than an inch of rain Thursday night.
My son Douglas called me Friday evening after he got off work at Hesston Forage and asked to take me out for supper. He drove an hour in the fog and took me to Al's Café for Valentine's Day. Regardless of the fog, the café was packed with people. I visited with Sam Alvarez, who with his wife, were in the kitchen helping his mother Dee. Sam was critically ill several days ago. He said he is better and has quite smoking and drinking.

Mike and Sharyn Mueller of Olathe and Randy and Jo Hanschu of Kansas City joined them. Frances baked and decorated Clinton's favorite angel food cake. Clinton received calls from his other granddaughters. Cindy took him back Sunday evening. Frances said Fred Shields is in the same apartment as Clinton and is not too well. His wife, Virginia, from rural Lincolnville, spends some time with him.
