Loucile Knackstedt

Loucile Knackstedt, 93, died Jan. 16, 2004, at Aurora Nursing Center, Aurora, Mo.

The daughter of J.E. and Olive Gallagher, she was born March 7, 1910, at West Mineral.

After graduating from high school she attended Pittsburg State University and the University of Kansas, where she earned her college degree. She taught kindergarten and primary grades for 17 years.

After raising two sons, she became a housemother for fraternities and sororities at the University of Kansas, Wichita State University, and Emporia State University. She retired in 1979 and moved to Chanute to be near her twin sister, Louise Lowe.

She was a life member of Order of the Eastern Star #136 in Erie and received her 50-year pin. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Eastmoor United Methodist Church, and past member of the Coterie Club.

She had a love of music and was an accomplished violinist. She was an avid sports fan.

On Aug. 29, 1931, she married Edwin Lowe at Erie. He died in 1961.

She married Eugene Knackstedt on May 23, 1981, at Marion. He died in 1989.

In addition to two husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Seth Lowe and Clark Lowe.

Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Jeannette Lowe of Shell Knob, Mo., and Doris Lowe of Topeka; two stepsons, Larry Knackstedt of Overland Park and Gary Knackstedt of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Williamson Funeral Home, Shell Knob, Mo., with the Revs. Debbie and Rick Youngblood officiating.

A memorial fund has been established with the Shriner Children's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
