Lu Kendall

Lu Kendall, 82, lifelong resident of Herington, died April 5, 2003, at Trigg Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Herington, the daughter of W.L. "Roy" and Mary M. (Wry) Smalley.

Kendall worked for Greeley Gas Company in Herington until she retired in 1982 as a receptionist and bookkeeper. She also worked for Penney's Department Store in Herington until it closed.

She graduated from Herington High School in 1937 and received her bookkeeping certificate from Wichita Business College. She was a member of the Herington United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She also was a member of Herington Country Club and Herington Lioness Club.

She married W.M. "Bill" Kendall on Feb. 7, 1942, at Herington United Methodist Church. He died July 30, 2001.

Survivors include daughter Carolyn Haden; three sons, Larry Kendall of St. Louis, Mo., Jim Kendall of Prescott, Ariz., and Dave Kendall of Dover; brother Harry Smalley of Raymore, Mo.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Herington, with the Rev. Edward Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.

Memorials have been established with Herington United Methodist Church or the Macular Degeneration Association.
