Makovec gets notice of extended service

Simon Makovec of Ramona, a soldier serving in Iraq, has been served notice that his unit's term of service has been extended 125 days.

He originally expected to return home April 1 but now will be serving until the end of July.

Other members of his unit include Chris Jolly, grandson of Reign and Marlene Anduss, Ramona, and Zachary and Jake Linn, grandsons of Larry and Barbara Smith, Marion.

Simon's father, Gail Makovec, said the unit has expressed need for various items such as spotlights and tools to help them through their extended stay.

Makovec plans to purchase the items and ship them to Iraq. Anyone who would like to contribute toward the purchases may send a check to Gail and Marissa Makovec, 3201 Quail Creek Road, Ramona KS 67475. Their phone number is 785-965-2283.

"Any help will be appreciated, and donors will receive credit for their contributions," Makovec said.
