Man accused of selling drugs to children

An individual attempting to sell drugs to children within the city limits of Peabody was arrested Saturday morning following a chase.

Marion County Sheriff Lee Becker said a report was received at 11 p.m. Friday by the Peabody Police Department of a man selling drugs to children.

Officers determined there was probable cause to arrest Ryan Turner, 20, of Lyons, on suspected drug charges.

The suspect was located in a Peabody residence but officers were refused entry by people at the residence.

Entry was made by Marion County Sheriff and Peabody police officers and Turner was found hiding under a bed.

Turner was arrested and taken into custody.

While searching the residence for the suspect, officers discovered drug paraphernalia.

"We obtained a search warrant through Marion County Attorney Susan Robson," said Becker.

Turner escaped from police custody and remained at large until approximately 8 a.m. Saturday, Becker said.

Officers from Peabody, Marion, Hillsboro, Marion County, and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in the manhunt.

Turner was charged with attempt to sell narcotics, endangering a child, public intoxication, and escape from custody. He posted a $1,000 bond.

An investigation is continuing regarding the residence search, Becker said.
