Joe and Connie Alvarez celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday with dinner followed by a reception and dance at the Herington Community Building. It was hosted by their children, Joe Jr., Ruby, Ron, Carmen, Angie, and Tony. Connie said the children did a tremendous job. Everything was gorgeous. Jane Pigorsch, Lincolnville made the three-tier cake. The Mexican music was from Newton.
After church Sunday, all their children were at their home for dinner eating left-over food and cake. Connie said there was some cake still left over and for me to come down and have a piece.
Connie said the date of their wedding was on the 12th of January. So today, Monday, friends were taking Joe and Connie out for dinner. Congratulations.
Jeff and Jennifer Braden, Windom, left their son Joshua Saturday at his great-grandparents, Fred and Marguerite Utech then went to Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu's. Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob and Jorge, Hillsboro, met the Bradens and Junior Hanschus. They all traveled in Jayson's vehicle to Manhattan where they attended the wedding of Brandon Hanschu, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Hanschu, and Amber Svitak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Svitak, at the First United Methodist Church. They attended the reception and dance held at the Wareham Opera House in Manhattan.
Jeff and Jennifer Braden stayed overnight Saturday at Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu's home. Sunday morning they picked up Joshua and went to church services at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona. Then the Junior Hanschus took the Bradens out for dinner at the Ramona Café. The Bradens went home after dinner.
Alex and Jean Stuchlik attended the reception and dance of Joe and Connie Alvarez's 50th wedding anniversary celebration Saturday night at the Herington Community Building.
I received a telephone call from my college pal, Alice Jantzen and husband Lloyd, of Ringwood, Okla. I hadn't heard from them in more than a year, and it was a surprise to hear her voice. We talked for one and a half hours. They are retired but still live on the farm. Lloyd was interested in the crops and cattle. She was 87 in September and he is 89. It was much warmer in Oklahoma than here.
Neil and Jolene Albrecht and Kallie of Salina went to Brandon Hanschu and Amber Svitak's wedding Saturday afternoon. They also attended the reception and dance.
Mervin and Leona Deines had a lot of places to go Saturday. They attended the Brandon Hanschu and Amber Svitak wedding, reception, and dance. They left to make it to the Herington Community Building to attend the dance held in celebration of the Alvarezs' 50th wedding anniversary.
Ross Stuchlik visited Monday morning with his grandmother, Frances Stuchlik.
I received a telephone call Saturday evening from my granddaughter, Marisa Bentley of Stafford, Va. She was checking to see how I was getting along on the farm and spoke of her children that I have not seen. She promised to mail a picture of the family, and asked me to visit them for awhile. I also received a belated Christmas card from her brother, Wesley of Buckeye, Ariz., who had surgery not long ago.
Mervin and Leona Deines helped their granddaughter, Shelly Deines, celebrate her 12th birthday Sunday afternoon at the home of her folks, Jeff and Gayla Deines. Other guests were her sister Jessica; brother Justin; Terry and Julie Deines, McKenzie, Dylan, and Carly; Ross and Debbie Coup, Samantha and Adam, Hope; Weldon and Rosemary Deines and Christina, Herington; Charles and Darlene Gutsch, and Perry Gutsch, Anthony and Whitney, Burdick.
Larry Rudolph was my supper guest Friday night after he fed the cattle.
