Marble company breaks ground for business at Marion

Owners David (front far left) and Laura Yates (front far right) watch as Mayor Eloise Mueller (front middle) jabs at the dry soil with a ceremonial shovel during the official ground breaking ceremony for the construction of Mid-America Marble Company, held at 1105 N. Industrial Road April 9.

Looking on (back row from left to right) are Jack Regnier, Larry McLain, Casey Case, and Commissioner Jim Crofoot.

Mid-America Marble will specialize in man-made marble production which will include the manufacturing of vanities, countertops, tub-enclosures, and a variety of other marble products according to David Yates.

Susan Cooper, Marion's economic development director, said the new business is an important one to area economic development. "Marion really is focusing on entrepenuers like the Yates," Cooper said. "We are trying hard to accommodate people who want to start businesses. They'll be bringing a product that we haven't had before in this community. We're very glad to have them and we hope that this will be one of many business out here." According to David, the couple expects to be open some time at the end of summer.
