Marie Kimble

Marie Elizabeth Kimble, 102, Herington, died April 13, 2002, at the Lutheran Care Home, Herington. She was born June 22, 1899, at Golga, Russia, the daughter of Henry John and Marie Elizabeth (Klose) Bernhart.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Donahue Funeral Home Chapel, Herington, the Rev. K.C. Dehning officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Kimble was a homemaker. She worked at the W.E. Jett Department Store for 16 years in Colorado before returning to Herington to work as manager of the Post Exchange at the Herington Army Airbase during World War II. In 1946 she was bookkeeper and cashier at J.M. McDonald Department Store in Herington, and in 1955 moved to California. She moved back to Herington in 1992.

Mrs. Kimble was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington, and also taught Sunday school for 16 years.

She married Rex N. Kimble who preceded her in death. A son, Ervin W. Kimble, died July 24, 1988.

She was the last surviving sibling of three brothers, John Bernhart, Dan Bernhart, and Henry Bernhart; six sisters, Mollie Keller, Lydia Baird, Bertha Costello, Mary Spady, Katie Bernhart, and Emma Bernhart, and also was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors are a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
