Marion Advancement Campaign to promote Marion

The Marion Advancement Campaign is a newly-formed public foundation whose goal is to promote Marion through quality-of-life enhancement.

MAC's motto is "Invest in the future of Marion."

The first project taken on by the foundation is The Legend Theatre and an adjacent community center. The movie theater will have two screens showing current-release movies.

The community center will be available to rent for wedding receptions, auctions, dances, family reunions, and other meetings. It will have a complete kitchen and plenty of open space for flexibility of use, according to a brochure published by MAC.

The community center will be named after a donor, as will each of the two movie screens.

Donations are tax-deductible. They can be sent to Flint Hills Area Community Foundation/ MAC, P.O. Box 153, Marion, KS 66861, or dropped off at 426 East Main in Marion.

Donations can be amortized over a period of months or years. Contact MAC for details.

The theater/community center project will require total community effort, the brochure states. "Please pledge your labor, expertise or money. Help make this and other projects a part of Marion's future."

Donations are used to support projects that will make life in Marion and the surrounding area more satisfying for those living here, and more attractive to those who might like to relocate.

Michael Powers is MAC board chairman. Other members are Gene F. Winkler, Mickey Lundy, Susan Cooper, Jeff Cady and Jami Williams.
