Marion approves IRB resolution for assisted living developer
Staff writer
The Marion City Commission on Monday approved an enabling resolution for issuance of industrial revenue bonds for the developer of a proposed assisted living facility.
Such bonds are issued for private businesses or industries, Phil Lacey, attorney representing the developer, told commissioners. The City of Marion will not be obligated in any way to pay off any part of the bonds, he said.
The developer must pay them off. The City was just lending its assistance and approval by passing the resolution, in effect saying the project would be "good for Marion."
Susan Cooper, economic development director for the City, thanked commissioners and the City for their help with the just-ended Chingawassa Days 2003.
"It went well, even with some rain and cool weather on Saturday," she said.
Commissioners approved payment of warrants in the total amount of $25,534.22. They also approved the May utility billing tie-out.
Janet Marler, librarian, reported that 30 people attended the "Grandmother's Garden" program on June 3 at the library.
Also, she said, Richard Miller, from the Manhattan Library, came on June 3 to help her with computer issues and to write a technology plan for the future, to qualify for E-rate.
The monthly library board of directors meeting was held Wednesday. Memorial money, landscaping, budget, and future events were discussed.
The first summer storytime for children was held Friday, and on both Friday and Saturday, visitors in town for Chingawassa Days toured the library.
She is continuing to prepare for the June 23 Harry Potter Party and getting ready for the summer reading program, Marler said.
