Marion city clerk resigns
Following a 50-minute executive session at the conclusion of a meeting Monday evening, Marion City Commission accepted the resignation of long-time city clerk Linda Holub effective immediately.
Holub had served the city for approximately 15 years as billing clerk and clerk.
No explanation was given by the commission for the resignation.
In other business:
— Two insurance companies presented bid proposals to provide health insurance for city employees.
Medova Health Insurance presented a bid of $10,800 per month.
Representative Mark Bieberle presented information regarding comparisons of proposed insurance coverage and various other groups, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas, the current carrier.
After the presentation, Tim Oglesby of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas presented a proposal of $8,382 per month, a three percent decrease from the previous year.
The commission tabled any decision until a future commission meeting. The current premium will come due March 1.
— City administrator David Mayfield reported the city's engineering firm that is assisting with a proposal to make improvements to the city's water treatment plant, told Mayfield that Kansas Department of Health & Environment was requiring an additional basin for ozone treatment.
Further investigation by engineers determined that other forms of treatment could eliminate the need for an additional basin.
Plans will be submitted by late February, followed with bid-letting for the project.
— Harvey Sanders, public utilities director, reported a pole was replaced on North Roosevelt Street, and patching of streets will begin this week.
— City economic development director Jami Williams reported she had provided tours to candidates for the position of chief executive officer at St. Luke Hospital and was working on obtaining high-speed Internet service at the business park.
— An electrical license was approved for Clyde Secrest DBA LinCo., Inc. of Marion.
The next commission meeting will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the city building.
