Marion Co. Lake

Well, what can you say about Kansas weather? Wednesday it was hot and windy. Thursday was decent. Friday it rained. Saturday and Sunday it was cool. This week it's supposed to almost get to 90.
Oh well, at least it didn't rain for the Saturday garage sales — you just had to wear a coat to stay warm. I really don't like all the towns having them the same day, I can barely make all the ones in Marion, let alone driving to Peabody and Hillsboro. Guess I'm a slow looker.
We had the Cardinal Camping group here with about 15 units. Some of them came in Wednesday and stayed through Sunday. Some of them came from Topeka, Olathe, Fowler, Wichita, Andover, Benton, Augusta, and one from Oklahoma. They enjoyed going to the garage sales and had fun with the one at the lake hall. They have another scheduled camp-out here in September.
Fishing has been kind of like the weather — sometimes good and sometimes bad. The warmer days the fish seem to be biting good and the windy, cold days they don't. The crappie are ready to spawn if it would just stay warm for a few days in a row. Some fishermen hit it just right and have caught several nice ones, but it depends on the kind of day it was. Maybe this week will be the one.
We had about 15 boat fishermen out Sunday, most of them coming over from the reservoir because it was so windy out there. Most reported catching a few smaller bass, wipers, drum, and short walleye.
My sister and husband, Peg and Paul Silhan from Salina, came out to the farm on Windy Wednesday to pick up some flat rocks for their yard waterfall. Good thing they had the rocks in their car — probably kept them from blowing off the road while going home.
We have this week left on our Walk Across Kansas and we are still in sixth place. Not bad out of 29 teams. None of us did very good last week with the wind and rain. Maybe this week will be better. I was hoping for 800 miles but don't think we will make that. The motivation was good to get us started and we know we all feel better for doing it. I will let you know the results next week.
