Marion Co. SRS office could be victim of budget cuts
According to a press release from Gov. Bill Grave's office, the possibility exists that, due to budget constraints, many SRS offices in the state will be closed within the next three years.
Ralph Noriega, economic assistant at the Marion County SRS office, said the office likely would get the axe.
Marilyn Hall, customer relations employee at the Emporia office, said each county currently has one office. The proposal is to cut the number of SRS offices to approximately 35.
Hall hastened to add that before any office would be closed, community meetings would be held to seek input from service providers and others in the area.
She said her office has not received any information regarding possible closures.
