Marion County funds are coming and going
Collects $42,000 in retail sales tax, spends more than $100,000 of 2003 carryover

Marion County Commission heard Friday some good news and bad news.
The good news was county sales tax revenue, collected in November and distributed in January, was the highest November collection in more than five years.
More than $42,432 was collected in November, compared with $41,297 collected in 2002.
The bad news was carryovers from 2003 and paid in 2004 totaled more than $100,000.
Carol Maggard, county clerk, reported with December expenses, the sheriff's department ended the year with expenses totaling 115 percent of the adjusted budget. Final expenses were department and jail expenses.
The attorney's office was 113 percent for juvenile detention, and judicial was 105 percent for attorney's costs.
County road and bridge superintendent Gerald Kelsey and road foreman Jim Herzet presented one bid for area fuel bid.
Cardie Oil Company made a bid of $6,785 for 6,550 gallons of fuel averaging $1.04 per gallon.
Commission signed off on eight completed road crossing permits — seven from Moundridge Telephone and one from SBC.
Kelsey received authorization from the commission to purchase from the lowest bidder beams for bridge construction.
Fifty-foot beams continue to increase in price from $23.60 per pound to $27.70 per pound, reported Kelsey. He said that the price will increase again in two weeks. Commission will not meet again until Monday, too late to review the bids and make a decision before the next price increase.
Maggard presented the annual agreement between county and Northview Development Services for $54,500.
An inventory report list was presented for signatures. The equipment list includes all equipment valued at $200 or more.
The payday amount was $823,981, with $124,178 for insurance and other beginning of the year expenses.
The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the courthouse.
