Marion County Lake

We had a bass club from Hutchinson come early Saturday morning. There were eight boats with two fishermen per boat. They weren't out there very long when it started to rain. The rain wouldn't have been so bad but when the lightening started they came in. Some stayed out and caught fish while it rained and some of them went to Kingfisher's Inn to eat and waited to see if it would clear off. The rain won out. They did catch some small bass, walleye, wipers, and drum.

Fishing at the heated dock is still slow, but every once in a while someone catches a nice crappie and a few little ones. The water is clearing up and the water temperature is around 60 degrees now, depending on where you take it. We had several boat fishermen out Sunday, but no big catches reported. At least no one brought any by for pictures. The north end has been the hot spot for channel cat, using worms or cheese bait.

It was a nice rain and I'm glad it didn't storm any more than it did. This was the first outbreak of tornadoes and hail for the season. The weatherman last night, said it had been more than 200 plus days since the last reported tornado in Kansas. That long of a stretch hasn't happened in more than 10 years. We can only hope this spring stays mild and not wild and scary.

The warm days and rains sure have greened up the grass and made the flowers and flowering bushes pretty. The forsythia, red buds, and Bradford pears are really pretty. The stores are getting in their bedding flowers and everyone's getting anxious. I'm going to wait a while longer as the long range forecast sounds a little cool to me. I hope it doesn't freeze all the fruit trees and flowers.

Since Marge Summervill and I have been walking around the lake for Walk Kansas, we decided we would pick up cans and bottles while we walk and talk. This week we decided to walk to U.S.-77 and back and pick up trash along the way. We took along eight grocery bags and guess what? We didn't even make it half way to the highway and all of our bags were full! Now we have to do it again. I think we will have to take bigger bags this time.

I finally made it in to the library to see the beautiful quilts. We really have some talented people in our community. Such beautiful ideas and tiny, tiny stitches.

Yeah, Jayhawks! I know they didn't win but I still have to cheer for them for getting that far. It was a good game to watch and kept us on the edge of our chairs. Maybe next year?
