Marion County youth show animals at KJL show

Youth from Marion County and 87 other Kansas counties are set to compete at the 71st annual Kansas Junior Livestock Show Sept. 19-22 at the Kansas Coliseum north of Wichita.

Entries include 670 exhibitors and 1,369 head of livestock.

Lyon County leads the state with the most exhibitors and market hogs entered. In the market lamb division, 4-H and FFA members from Cowley County registered the most entries.

The top five entries from each of the market divisions — steers, hogs, and lambs — will sell during the KJLS Auction of Champions at 7 p.m. Sept. 22.

Entrants from Marion County include:

From Marion: Daniel Goentzel, market lamb; and Leann Thomas, two market steers.

From Hillsboro: Laci (Vogt) Frantz, two market barrows; Ethan Frantz, two market barrows; Ty Goossen, Angus breeding heifer and AOB breeding heifer; Alex Nuss, commercial breeding heifer; Cody Pankratz, two market lambs and three wether dams; Bryce Roberts, two market lambs; and Jessica Vannocker, two market barrows.

From Tampa: Aaron Barney, market lamb and wether dam; Alisha Barney, market lamb and wether dam; Nathan Barney, market lamb and wether dam.

From Ramona: Dana Beltz, two Simmental breeding heifers.

From Lost Springs, Christopher Will, Simmental breeding heifer.

There will be 14 exhibitors from Marion County. They will show eight lambs, six wethers, six heifers, six barrows, and two steers.
