Marion FCCLA members attend leadership academy
Nine members of Marion High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) attended the District G Fall Leadership Academy Oct. 31 at McPherson High School. Two advisers also attended.
Senior Alexandra Vogel read "The Carpenter's House," for the devotion. Students attended various workshops during the morning.
"Mark the Spark" Johnson was the guest speaker. He spoke about the importance of making good choices throughout life.
During the afternoon session, Amy Waner, Natasha White, Katherine Pike, Tiffany O'Connor, and Amy Goering were recognized for completing the Power of One module "A Better You." LaNae Nelson and Amber Smith were recognized for completing "A Better You" and "Family Ties" modules.
The district sponsored a costume contest with three categories — family member, career person, and patriotic. Marion High School won first place in the family member category with Krystal Williams as granny and baby. Alexandra Vogel read the commentary.
FCCLA is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps youth become leaders and address personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. The organization has involved more than 10 million youth since its founding in 1945.
FCCLA is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. It is the only in-school organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.
