Marion FFA members attend convention
Members of the Marion/Florence FFA Chapter attended the 75th annual state FFA convention May 28-30 at Manhattan.
Alan Vogel of Marion received the state grain production proficiency award sponsored by the Kansas Wheat Commission. Vogel also was recognized as a recipient of a national FFA scholarship sponsored by the American Farm Bureau and Monsanto.
The Marion/Florence chapter received fourth place in the state safety award competition and was recognized for making the silver division in chapter award areas of student development, chapter development, and community development. The chapter also made the silver division in chapter scrapbook competition.
More than 1,500 FFA members and guests from around the state attended the convention.
Participants listened to the retiring addresses of state FFA officers, heard from the national FFA secretary, Seth Heinert, and the national central region FFA vice president, J.J. Jones, as well as several motivational speakers.
Delegates from FFA chapters in the state participated in business sessions and passed five amendments to the Kansas FFA constitution.
FFA members from Marion participated in a leadership workshop and attended all six sessions of the convention.
Becky Tharp of Marion participated in the state FFA chorus which performed at several convention sessions.
