Marion/Florence FFA hosts ag awareness day

The Marion/Florence FFA Chapter held its eighth annual Ag Awareness Day Thursday at Marion Stadium.

Approximately 100 third graders from Marion, Peabody, and Hillsboro elementary schools participated.

FFA members provided presentations about farming practices involving agricultural equipment, safety, and animals.

Presenters included Tacy Taylor and Bryce Suffield, sheep; Levi Carpenter, Mara Prescott, and John Goering, hay balers and PTO safety; Mark Kukuk and Alan Overton, tillage equipment; Hank Collett and Charlie Holub, poultry; Kevin Billbe and Alycia Pontious, combines; Jason Richmond and Danny Hett, ATV safety; Brad Klenda and Austin Percell, swine; Jacob Czarnowsky and Zan Fine, poison awareness; Gabe Moore and Adam Hett, goats; Danielle Cope and Sam Ehrlich, beef cattle.

The chapter also organized a petting zoo for the students as one of the rotations.

The Natural Resource Conservation Service, Cooperative Grain and Supply, Deer Trail Implement, and Straub International supplied animals or equipment for the presentations.
