Marion/Florence FFA hosts chapter banquet

Marion/Florence FFA Chapter conducted its parent/member/employer banquet Thursday at Marion High School commons area. More than 140 members and guests attended.

Members were recognized for activities during the year and were presented numerous awards.

Mark Kukuk was recognized as the chapter's Star Greenhand and Adam Depler received the Chapter Star in Agribusiness award.

Chapter sweepstakes awards were presented to Danielle Cope, first; Kevin Billbe, second; and Adam Depler, third.

Chapter officers for the 2006-07 were announced. They are Danielle Cope, president; Chase Williams, vice president; Tacy Taylor, secretary; Hank Collett, reporter; Riley Ross, treasurer; Mark Kukuk, sentinel; Charlie Holub, student historian; and Brad Klenda, parliamentarian.

The FFA chapter also presented the honorary chapter FFA degree to Lee Leiker, Eric Moore, and Sarah Cope. The honorary degree is the highest award the chapter can give to community members. It recognizes individuals for assisting the FFA chapter in activities throughout the year.

Appreciation certificates were presented to Straub International, Deer Trail Implement Inc., Marion Cooperative Grain & Supply, Animal Health Center, Robin Taylor, and Ken Arnhold for their assistance to the chapter during the year.

Shawn Turner, current state FFA president, was the featured speaker for the evening.

The chapter presented a PowerPoint slide show of the year's highlights following the meal.

Chapter proficiency awards

Preston Williams — agriculture mechanics repair and maintenance, placement division; agriculture mechanics design and fabrication, entrepreneurship division.

Alan Overton — diversified crop production, placement division.

Brad Klenda — grain production proficiency, placement division; swine proficiency, entrepreneurship.

Hank Collett — beef production, entrepreneurship; poultry production, entrepreneurship.

Danielle Cope — forage production, placement division.

Braden Suffield — emerging ag technology.

Adam Depler — forest management, entrepreneurship; turf grass management, entrepreneurship.
