Marion High School seniors join ranks of alumni
Forty-three seniors and six foreign exchange students were honored Sunday at the MHS gymnasium as the 122nd graduating class of Marion High School.
The seniors entered to the familiar strains of "Pomp and Circumstance," performed by the MHS band under direction of Mike Connell.
They were welcomed by MHS principal Ken Arnhold.
The MHS Singers, under direction of Kevin Moler, performed "Do I Know Why?"
Valedictorian Rachel Davidson addressed the class.
Arnhold conducted the honor recognition with the introduction of valedictorian Rachel Davidson and salutatorian Casey Nelson.
Adrienne Chamberland and Michael Brookens were recognized for outstanding senior girl and boy awards.
Sixteen honor students were recognized: Linda Banning, Michael Brookens, Adrienne Chamberland, Rachel Davidson, David DeForest, Allison Maddox, Randi McCarty, Casey Nelson, Alysha O'Dell, Russell Ploutz, Hilary Regalado, Jeffrey Richmond, Misti Richmond, Emalee Versch, Brandon Watson, and Katelyn Whitaker.
Nineteen students were recognized for completing the Kansas Scholars Curriculum: Linda Banning, Jessica Bernhardt, Michael Brookens, Adrienne Chamberland, Rachel Davidson, David DeForest, Clayton Garnica, Kara Holt, Megan Hudson, Allison Maddox, Randi McCarty, Casey Nelson, Jenna Parli, Russell Ploutz, Hilary Regalado, Jeffrey Richmond, Ranell Schroeder, Brandon Watson, and Katelyn Whitaker.
Superintendent of schools Lee Leiker presented the graduates of 2006 and recognized parents and staff at USD 408 for their part in raising and educating a successful graduating class.
As each student's name was announced and their future plans were read, they crossed the stage to accept diplomas from the USD 408 Board of Education president Rex Savage.
Following the diploma awards, a slide show created by Jeffrey Richmond was presented. The slide show featured the graduates as they grew from children to young adults.
The new alumni of MHS exited the gymnasium with a recessional by the MHS band.
